This is a light brown chachalaca in dappled sunlight preening its tail feathers. It's standing on a branch next to the roof of the house with wild olive tree leaves as a backdrop. It seems to have two sets of tail feathers: long ones and short ones. Or, are they new ones and old ones? No matter, they must be well-groomed and this bird is just the one to do it! Her well-shaded eye barely shows up, being in the deep shade, but you can still see the twinkle of pride gleaming there in!

This is a #commonChachalaca that came around my yard for a while last summer, with 1-3 juveniles. She enjoyed flying up to this high perch to take a break from her young and get her feathers back in order after a morning of "momming."
