Printed on blue paper and taped to a concrete wall is the Community Agreement for the 2025 Black Zine Fair. The statement includes: “Wear a mask. Community health matters.” “Center Black people with intersecting oppressed identities.” “Non-Black people be mindful of your presence. Step back and make space for Black people to participate.”
The Community Agreement for #BlackZineFair was taped at the entrances to the tabling space on the 3rd Fl at Powerhouse Arts. Like last year, Black folks were the great majority at the zine fair. Unlike last year, I didn’t have to wait in line to get in. Inside, I ran into people I knew. #zines #NYC
#BlackZineFair was back for a 2nd year at Powerhouse Arts, 322 3rd Ave, Brooklyn. Like its 1st year in 2024, #BZF had a great turnout, good vibes and lots of zines. Also like last year, masks were required—a simple act that puts community care into practice and makes for a more inclusive event. #NYC
A series of zines laid out on a wooden table. A postcard reads “Losers attack our libraries. Fight for Librarians!” Zine titles from top left to right: “Move Slow & Break things” , “This Sh*it is outta my hands: a crip zinemaker’s journey”, “Solidarity is our history. Solidarity is our duty. Solidarity is our survival”, “Category is Black women serving communism”, “Black Joy Archive 2025”, “Louise Thompson Patterson and the first march on Washington”, “Ebony: More than a magazine”, Arrested at the library: policing the stacks”
Just part of what I picked up at the #BlackZineFair Can’t wait to go again next year.
Second year for the #BlackZineFair and it was great! 🤩 Thank you to @prisonculture.bsky.social and all the many other organizers, volunteers and exhibitors who made this event possible. Thank you for creating a safe and inclusive space for joy, inspiration and connection! ❤️
So many thanks to @prisonculture.bsky.social and @netabomani.com
Best. Just the best.

Been volunteering at the #BlackZineFair today! It is fantastic! Here's a photo of the main exhibit hall earlier today while exhibitors were still setting up

The event is free and open to the public!"

Great #BlackZineFair 2025 keynote, featuring Jehoiada Calvin presenting on the Johnson Publishing Company Archive. (In person on May 3 at #BZF2025, Calvin and Tulani Pryor will talk more about the archive.) Forty people attended the keynote, which was recorded. Appreciated BZF's Community Agreement.
Happening 1 hour from now 👀 #zines #BlackZineFair #BZF2025
Totally forgot that I RSVP’d for this online event earlier this week (and hadn’t put it on my calendar). Would’ve been so upset if I missed it 😭 #zines #BlackZineFair #BZF2025
It's fully funded, but, I made an additional tiny donation and you can, too, to help them get a headstart on the next one!
