🌏 Common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) The common pheasant, also known as the ring-necked pheasant or blue-headed pheasant, is a large, striking bird with iridescent chestnut, gold, and black plumage, a green head, red facial wattles, and often a white neck ring. Females are less conspicuous, with mottled brown feathers for camouflage. Native to Asia, they've been widely introduced globally, thriving in woodland, farmland, and scrub. Pheasants are ground-dwelling, foraging for seeds, insects, and vegetation. They are strong but short-distance fliers, preferring to run, and roost in trees at night.
