The new blog is gradually improving. www.seren-boat.uk/

Click Blog on the menu bar. I could link it here but then you wouldn't see the pic on the home page.
Real techies look away now. For a few years I've had a blog on a free Weebly account, mostly to recount my boating trials and tribulations on the canals in England & Wales. But inspired by posts about 'Smolweb' I decided to blog like it's 1989. The result is here: http://seren-boat.uk […]
Yes YES babes it is sunny on the river today and I have this morning successfully cruised my 60 tons of Dutch barge to the water point and back after a lot of prep, for only the second time ever. Turning a 74 foot boat in an 80-90 foot wide river is not for the faint of heart but it was was […]
When operating the lock I turned around and there was a small deer behind me. Pictured with the lock i the background.
I have just written up my blog post from May.

The deer was quite the surprise. .... and sooo cute.

For all those boaters who know Pontcysyllte and anyone interested in technical history this is a great explanatory animation.

Is there anyone on here who understands auto electrics? I thought I did but I'm baffled by my boat engine/alternator/dashboard. Please DM if you think you can help, we don't need to bore everyone else. #BoatsThatToot #boats #boating #cars #electrics
Three Welsh Cakes (and the remains of a fourth) on a plate next to a cup of tea.
It's pouring with rain at Foxton locks so I'm not boating anywhere. Decided to treat myself to Welsh cakes (Cacyn Cymreig? Sue or Jaz if you're reading this please correct me!) Perfect with a paned. As you can see one didn't last long enough to make it to the […]

Tonight's boat blog is mostly about food. Cooking with very limited facilities brings out my creative side so this evening I had a vegetarian 'steak' and mushroom pie. Details here: https://pthane.weebly.com/blog

A savoury pie oozing a rich gravy accompanied by green beans.
I appear to have made steak and mushroom pie without an oven. And indeed without steak. Details on the blog when I've finished eating. #BoatsThatToot #seitan
There will be no blog update tonight. Not for the usual reason, no 4g data, but because the blogger has overheated. I'm at the top of Foxton locks, tomorrow we descend then turn right on the Market Harborough arm. #BoatsThatToot #CanalBoat #Boating
I'm back! Actually I've been here, at Welford Wharf, since yesterday morning but the phone signal is awful so not much posting or blogging. Now I'm in the Wharf Inn which has cold beer and free WiFi so I've updated the blog.

Poor signal here at Welford I tried to send last night's photo but it timed out. I was planning on painting the cabin starboard side today but it's hot, I'm tired and can't be bothered. So mostly I'm reading The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell and drinking tea. #BoatsThatToot #Seren
The latest boat trip starts in a few minutes. Updates here:

I'll update the blog this evening but there's also a 'Track Seren' button to see where I am.

Update on the boat work that didn't go according to plan for reasons that are too long to toot. Details and photos here:

CW blog contains descriptions of illness! But I'm better now

Landscape format view of the side of a canal cruiser with the cabin and side deck painted with white undercoat.
Painting Seren is a long job. Since taking this photo I've applied a top coat. Tomorrow I'll turn her round and do the other side.

A short section of the port side of the cabin on a canal cruiser. This part has been painted with undercoat.
Yesterday I cleaned, filled and under-coated a section of Seren's cabin side. More to do today.
#Boaters #techies ford anyone know much about Rev Counters (tachometers) driven by the alternator?
Nothing on my boat is original and some parts don't work nice together. The alternator I inherited didn't fit properly, eventually it fell off and damaged itself. I got a generic one that fits […]

Halfway up the Watford staircase locks. #BoatsThatToot #WatfordLocks
Still homeward bound on Seren. Today we did the remaining locks at Napton then cruiser on to Braunston. Went shopping, did 6 more locks and the Braunston tunnel before stopping near Norton Junction. Pizza for dinner, made on board with sourdough obvs. 5 miles and 7 locks to Crick wharf tomorrow […]
Today's boaty blog is live at https://pthane.weebly.com
It's small but perfectly formed. Unlike the crew.

CRT volunteers roping a small GRP cruiser through Grant's Lock south of Banbury on the Oxford Canal.
#CRT Staff and volunteers got us through Grant's Lock this morning. Stopped at #Cropredy now as we're both tired. #BoatsThatToot #Boating #OxfordCanal #Seren
Apologies to anyone wondering about the boat trip. No internet last night, lock problems today. Details blogged later. #BoatsThatToot #Boating #canals
On day one of the boat trip Gareth and I took some video footage. I finally edited it, badly. It's here:

More on the blog tomorrow, done enough today.
Do any of you techie/boatie people understand Victron solar controllers? Last night we ran the battery down and overnight the Victron cut off the 'load' to spare the battery. This morning we've got bright sun, the battery voltage is improved but the load is still off. Does it somehow sense when […]

My friend Troy Graham, previously working aboard private yachts, now has his own narrowboat moving service 🚀 https://www.grahamsboatmovers.com/ #BoatsThatToot
A photo from the empty and well-maintained towpath of NB "FULLY RESTFUL", moored up in a peaceful location. Small trees or large bushes line and somewhat overhang the towpath, and beyond the tree-lined offside there are fields stretching over the undulating ground to the horizon. The sky is blue with some clouds, it looks like (and is) a warm day.
Current status ... somewhere on the Macclesfield canal #BoatsThatToot
NB "FULLY RESTFUL" moored up at the water point, with the centre line tied to a mooring bollard. The photo is taken from just behind the stern of the narrowboat, showing the stern deck, with the stern doors open, the towpath where there's a bench next to the waterpoint. Just beyond the waterpoint is a short cobbled footbridge over the entrance to the short arm that is the Braidbar Boats dock. The sky is a light blue, lit with some early morning sun from the east.
Earlier this morning. Stopped at Lord Vernon's Wharf (nr Braidbar Boats) to fill up at the water point. #BoatsThatToot
