A copy of O'Reilly Media's "Managing UUCP and Usenet" by Tim O'Reilly and Grace Todino. I was recommended this book in a recent Mastodon thread in which I inquired about how UUCP works, and some kind poster directed me to this book. Being a fan of O'Reilly books, I couldn't pass this book up, since the company's general style really clicks with me, and really helps teach you about the topic at hand. I strongly recommend that if you need to learn about a technological concept, be it a programming language, a commonly used tool like a text editor, or any such thing, you first look to see if O'Reilly has a book on the subject :)

A copy of Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. This anti-war novel from 1939 tells the tale of Joe Bonham, a soldier in World War I who gets hit by artillery fire and wakes to find he has no arms, no legs, and veritably no face or senses beyond a sense of touch. Trapped in his mind, he begins to go stir-crazy at his predicament, and the horrors of his situation become clear. This novel was quite controversial at the time, given Dalton Trumbo's communist ties, but the message of his novel is clearer than ever. This book is my favorite novel, but I've never owned a copy of it before, having only ever checked it out from the library, but now that I have one, I'm super stoked to read it again.
