Manusmriti Dahan was the public burning of the Manusmriti, an ancient Hindu scripture that perpetuated caste-based discrimination and oppression. The event took place on December 25, 1927, in Mahad, Maharashtra. Why did Ambedkar burn the Manusmriti? Ambedkar, a prominent Dalit leader and social reformer, burned the Manusmriti as a symbol of rejection of the religious basis of untouchability. He believed that the Manusmriti perpetuated inequality and injustice, particularly against women and Dalits.
We believe that one of the Ex-Hindu movements is the burning of Manusmriti. This movement was started by BR Ambedkar on 25 December 1927.
