I love #birds in general, but the ones that stroke my pleasure senses the most are the cute smaller ones like this #Dusky-cappedFlycatcher found along a fenced trail in a densely-forested area in central #Brazil. #AvesBrasil #BrazilBirds #BirdingInBrazil

Still in the #Pantanal, this orange-backed troupial looks a bit like our local Bullock's oriole in BC. Same genus of birds-- #Icterus. The term "troupial" is from the French troupiale, meaning troop or flock, so named because of their penchant to gather. 🪶🌿🇧🇷 #BrazilBirds #AvesBrasil #BirdingInBrazil

This male #GreatAntshrike was keeping a close watch on me and fellow birders with those gorgeous ruby-red eyes. His black and white plumage contrast starkly with his mate's soft rufous-brown feathers, but she still has the lovely red eyes. Parque Mãe Bonifácia, Cuiabá.

One more #kingfisher we were lucky enough to see in the #Pantanal. The #RingedKingfisher is like a super-sized belted kingfisher. They range through most of South America and up to the southern tip of Texas. Unfortunately, I was fighting dim evening light here. #brazilbirds #avesbrasil 🌿🪶🇧🇷

Dark green bird with white neck and hefty pointed bill in contrast with its size. Some rufous colouring barely shows at the neck/chest area indicating it's a male. White spots are also seen on one of its wings and feathers on the back of its head look flared out as if it's wind blown.

This lovely #greenkingfisher was found in the #Pantanal, not far from the last posted Amazon kingfisher. Species range includes Mexico, Central & South America, and also extends into parts of Arizona & Texas. It's smallish at about 2/3 the size of the belted kingfisher. #brazilbirds #avesbrasil 🌿🪶🇧🇷

This character was found at the edge of the Brazilian Cerrado thanks to its loud whinnying song. I love its descriptive name--white-eared puffbird. Seems quite appropriate given its puffed-up appearance! 🪶🌿🇧🇷 #brazilbirds #avesbrasil #birdinginbrazil #whiteearedpuffbird

The number reason for me opting for NE Brazil.
Despite only having been described to science in 1997 and being classified as Critically Endangered, it's absolutely guaranteed at Arajara Water Park, where the hordes of normal people are only allowed in at weekends.

With a population of around c500 individuals, Grey-breasted Parakeet is the number one target in the Serra do Baturite, to which it is endemic. Very nice to easily connect with about a dozen so far.
Also gaudy glamour from Rufous-tailed Jacamar & Red-necked Tanager.
