He was 22 years old. Four of his friends survived the attempted murder; two of them were critically injured. The crime bears similarities to the murders committed by the neo-Nazi network NSU. Was racism also the motive behind this murder? The murder of Burak and the four attempted murders remain unsolved to this day. The killer has not been identified. For decades, migrants, left-wingers and anti-fascists in Neukölln have not only been attacked with impunity, but the perpetrators can apparently also count on protection, tolerance or at least a turning of a blind eye. A parliamentary committee of inquiry was fought for, tasked with investigating why the investigating authorities had failed to solve the series of terrorist attacks in the Neukölln complex. The murder of Burak took place six months after the NSU exposed itself. Nevertheless, the investigating authorities have made no changes to their working methods and deny the existence and impact of racism. A lack of investigation means impunity. On his birthday, we - friends, family, supporters and activists - will come together at the memorial site to lay flowers and remember Burak together. Burak has not been able to celebrate his birthday since 5 April 2012, when he was murdered at the age of 22. The murder of Burak Bektaş and the attempted murder of four of his friends have still not been solved. We show that Burak will not be forgotten. His laughter, his zest for life and the happiness that Burak meant for his family and many friends will remain alive. Since the summer of 2022, there has been a parliamentary committee of enquiry (PUA) to uncover why the many right-wing, racist acts of the Neukölln complex have not been solved. The murders of Burak Bektaş and Luke Holland were also topics of the PUA. The PUA's report has been announced for the end of May. We already know that it will not fulfil its mandate and the expectations of those affected. All the more reason for us to demand consequences for the responsible authorities.
