Encouragingly, healthy life expectancy is increasing over time (lower among females compared to males), however time spent with chronic age-related disease is also increasing (females were not expected to spend more time than males). #CAHR2025

Overall, the results find #PrEP is reaching and supporting those who need it, but PrEP was associated with changes in sexual behaviour that may warrant further sexual health prevention, particularly for b-STIs. #CAHR2025

Barad also dug into the phylogeny of HIV sequences present during NSV to examine the clonally expanded proviruses producing NSV. Showing participants that blips occur from these proviruses rather than resistance/non-adherence, helps better guide clinical management. #CAHR2025

Yaseen’s work examined the incidence/cause of PLLV, finding 10% of the 2800 participants in their study experienced at least 1 episode of PLLV & that 76% couldn’t be explained by drug resistance/non-adherence, indicating it's likely due to clonally-expanded proviruses. #CAHR2025

Through focus group discussions, a major concern voiced by women was lower safety in physical and social environments that led to unsafe use of drugs, and COVID-19 increased the isolation and therefore the risk of overdose experienced by many of the women. #CAHR2025
