923. XTC: The Big Express. Surround Sound Series with BluRay, remixed by Steven Wilson. Fantastic remix of XTC’s heaviest and loudest album. Lots of bonus tracks. #CDsAtoZ 💿
922. Carl Orff: Die Kluge & Der Mond. Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchestra conducted by Herbert Kegel. Two one-act operettas with sprech (spoken word) in German. Very weird and very delightful, and very much in the elemental style that Orff brought to ‘Carmina Burana’. #CDsAtoZ 💿
921. The Police: Synchronicity. 2CD reissue with bonus tracks. There is not a poor song on this album; even “Mother” is magnificent. This is timeless and it could have been released yesterday. What a band. #CDsAtoZ 💿
919. Metallica: Melbourne, Australia November 8, 2025. What a memento — double live CD from the show we went to. Sounds fantastic!! And my shouts/vocals are on the album too, somewhere. #CDsAtoZ 💿

917. The Beatles: Anthology 4. This band. Doubly nostalgic, firstly for the music, secondly for when I bought Anthology 1-3, 30 years ago. Another stupendous listening experience. Highlights are the early sessions, the instrumental strings from ‘Something’ and the remixed new songs. #CDsAtoZ 💿
Upon listening to Genesis’ Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 50th anniversary extravaganza: Fantastic remaster. The best album performances by the classic fivesome. Peter’s vocals, Steve’s guitar, Phil’s drums particularly special. Sounds so good loud! Music music #CDsAtoZ 💿
My Shostakovich fandom is validated by Spotify. But as for my CDs: out of my cold dead hands #CDsAtoZ 💿
916. Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: The Lord of the Rings — The Return of the King. Music composed by Howard Shore. There are so many beautiful moments in this music, from the lighting of the beacons of Gondor to the grey havens theme to the finale sung by Annie Lennox. #CDsAtoZ 💿
915. Gustav Holst: The Planets. London Symphony Orchestra and Ambrosian Singers conducted by André Previn. That’s not a planet on the album cover, but Previn’s recording is as bright and sumptuous as always, even though it’s over 50 years old. ‘Mercury’ and ‘Neptune’ are my favourites. #CDsAtoZ 💿
914. Genesis: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. 50th anniversary super-deluxe box set, 4 CDs and 1 BluRay Dolby Atmos mix. 70 page booklet etc etc. Magnificent!! Features the album plus the whole thing live. Sounds amazing. #CDsAtoZ 💿
913. Leonard Bernstein: Candide. London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Leonard Bernstein. Delightful operetta, here in its final revised version, recorded shortly before Bernstein’s death. The story, based on Voltaire, is hilarious. Wonderful recording. #CDsAtoZ 💿
912. Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 in D minor. National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich. This is the seventh version of the 5th Symphony that I have on CD, because there is no rule or legislation that says I shouldn’t. #CDsAtoZ 💿
911. Benjamin Britten: Four Sea Interludes & Passacaglia from Peter Grimes. London Symphony Orchestra conducted by André Previn. Glorious music and here produced with Previn’s ability to make every performance luminous. #CDsAtoZ 💿
910. Vissarion Shebalin: Orchestral Music Volume Two. Siberian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dmitry Vasiliev. First recordings of orchestral and ballet suites by Shebalin, the great Siberian composer and best mate to Shostakovich. Lush and beautiful and evocative. #CDsAtoZ 💿
Arrived in the mail today!! Ordered it in February. So worth the wait — an amazing package. #Genesis #CDsAtoZ 💿
909. Taylor Swift: The Life of a Showgirl. It’s a banger of an album, with some great instrumentation. Brighter in mood than her two previous albums and quite funky. Damn this woman is consistently brilliant and filled with ideas. #CDsAtoZ 💿
908. Leonard Cohen: Thanks for the Dance. Released posthumously and mostly containing words by Leonard and music by his son Adam. Just amazing and it really tests out my subwoofers. #CDsAtoZ 💿
907. Lana Del Rey: Born to Die. Dreamy and cinematic music is what Lana Del Rey is all about. ‘Video Games’ is something else altogether. #CDsAtoZ 💿
906. Benjamin Britten: Peter Grimes. The Britten centenary production recorded live at the 66th Aldeburgh Festival. An opera about “an ordinary weak person” (to quote the tenor Peter Pears). If this sounds hellish to you I’m here to say it’s fantastic and so very unusual. #CDsAtoZ 💿
905. Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: The Lord of the Rings — The Two Towers. Composed by Howard Shore. I have loved this soundtrack for many years and haven’t had it on CD until now. ‘The Riders of Rohan’ theme is the highlight, along with the very creepy ‘Gollum’s Song’. #CDsAtoZ 💿
904. Frank Zappa: Wazoo. Live recordings of the Zappa/Wazoo/Hot Rats Orchestra from 1972, featuring music that featured on The Grand Wazoo and Waka/Jawaka. Amazing! #CDsAtoZ 💿
903. Dmitri Shostakovich: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2. Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andris Nelsons. Baiba Skride, violin. Beautiful performances of the violin concertos. Skride plays them with great feeling and less of the usual attack. Number 2 is just gorgeous. #CDsAtoZ 💿

902. Wet Leg: Moisturizer. The second album from Wet Leg and it is even better than the first, if that was ever possible. Every song is great and it’s hard to get it out of the CD player. #CDsAtoZ 💿
901. Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphonies Nos. 5 and 6. Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andris Nelsons. From Nelson’s massive Shostakovich box set; wonderful new performances of two very wonderful symphonies. #CDsAtoZ 💿
Arrived today: 19 CD box set of Shostakovich’s symphonies, concertos, orchestral pieces and ‘Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk’ 🤩 Boston Symphony Orchestra under Andris Nelsons. Will do a video unboxing soon because omg #Shostakovich #CDsAtoZ 💿
900. Aram Khachaturian: Piano Concerto, Violin Concerto, Masquerade Suite, Symphony No. 2. Various conductors and orchestras. There is no one who wrote music like Khachaturian — so lush and beautiful. The piano concerto here uses the flexatone, an instrument that makes a creepy sound. #CDsAtoZ 💿
899. Led Zeppelin III. Remastered with a bonus disc and great packaging. The original CD I have is 1980s era and sounds rubbish. This sounds fantastic. Great album! #CDsAtoZ 💿
