922. Carl Orff: Die Kluge & Der Mond. Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchestra conducted by Herbert Kegel. Two one-act operettas with sprech (spoken word) in German. Very weird and very delightful, and very much in the elemental style that Orff brought to ‘Carmina Burana’. #CDsAtoZ 💿

917. The Beatles: Anthology 4. This band. Doubly nostalgic, firstly for the music, secondly for when I bought Anthology 1-3, 30 years ago. Another stupendous listening experience. Highlights are the early sessions, the instrumental strings from ‘Something’ and the remixed new songs. #CDsAtoZ 💿

Upon listening to Genesis’ Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 50th anniversary extravaganza: Fantastic remaster. The best album performances by the classic fivesome. Peter’s vocals, Steve’s guitar, Phil’s drums particularly special. Sounds so good loud! Music music #CDsAtoZ 💿

915. Gustav Holst: The Planets. London Symphony Orchestra and Ambrosian Singers conducted by André Previn. That’s not a planet on the album cover, but Previn’s recording is as bright and sumptuous as always, even though it’s over 50 years old. ‘Mercury’ and ‘Neptune’ are my favourites. #CDsAtoZ 💿

913. Leonard Bernstein: Candide. London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Leonard Bernstein. Delightful operetta, here in its final revised version, recorded shortly before Bernstein’s death. The story, based on Voltaire, is hilarious. Wonderful recording. #CDsAtoZ 💿

912. Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 in D minor. National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich. This is the seventh version of the 5th Symphony that I have on CD, because there is no rule or legislation that says I shouldn’t. #CDsAtoZ 💿

909. Taylor Swift: The Life of a Showgirl. It’s a banger of an album, with some great instrumentation. Brighter in mood than her two previous albums and quite funky. Damn this woman is consistently brilliant and filled with ideas. #CDsAtoZ 💿

908. Leonard Cohen: Thanks for the Dance. Released posthumously and mostly containing words by Leonard and music by his son Adam. Just amazing and it really tests out my subwoofers. #CDsAtoZ 💿

906. Benjamin Britten: Peter Grimes. The Britten centenary production recorded live at the 66th Aldeburgh Festival. An opera about “an ordinary weak person” (to quote the tenor Peter Pears). If this sounds hellish to you I’m here to say it’s fantastic and so very unusual. #CDsAtoZ 💿

900. Aram Khachaturian: Piano Concerto, Violin Concerto, Masquerade Suite, Symphony No. 2. Various conductors and orchestras. There is no one who wrote music like Khachaturian — so lush and beautiful. The piano concerto here uses the flexatone, an instrument that makes a creepy sound. #CDsAtoZ 💿
