Muslim Socialists of Your Party’s (MSYP) Statement on the CEC Elections We want to acknowledge our newly elected CEC and offer our congratulations to all who have stepped forward to serve. We look forward to working constructively with the CEC and are excited as the party enters its next phase. MSYP was formed to create a space where Muslim socialists could organise together with clarity, safety, and purpose. Our commitment is to grassroots democracy, transparent structures, and a political culture rooted in community care.
We believe deeply in the founding vision: a movement built from the ground up, led by its members and accountable to its base. That the movement is rooted in the lived realities of our working‑class communities. A new kind of politics. The CEC election period was not without its challenges. Our members shared experiences that highlighted areas in our organising culture that still need to grow and mature. Many felt that Muslim voices were spoken over by both factions. More still felt hijacked because our voices, our community’s voice, was used without our permission, or consultation, to weaponise a quarrel between factions. Discussions about rifts and divides were projected onto Muslims without grounding in our lived experiences.
There were moments were processes felt unclear, where decisions genuinely felt short of being member-led. Where groups were drawn into factional dynamics that did not reflect their own priorities. We raise these reflections not to assign blame, but because we care about building a healthier, more democratic culture across the party. For us at MSYP, this means: 1. Clearer, more transparent decision making in all member-facing spaces. 2. Ensuring Muslim members are engaged directly and not spoken for or co-opted 3. Protecting spaces where marginalised groups can organise safely and autonomously. 4. Strengthening safeguarding, accessibility and welfare across all organising structures. 5. Keeping our focus on political education, community organising, and the values members voted for at conference.
We are committed to working with the new CEC in a spirit of collaboration and shared purpose. Our hope is, that together we can build a culture that reflects the best of what this party set out to be. Democratic, accountable, rooted in community and unafraid to learn from its members. MSYP will continue to organise with warmth, clarity, and principle. We remain committed to amplifying Muslim socialist voices, strengthening grassroots organising, and contributing to a party culture where every member feels heard, respected, and empowered. We look forward to the work ahead. In solidarity, Muslim Socialists of Your Party
