The Canadian scenery in this movie upstages James Cagney and everyone else, for that matter. "Captains of the Clouds" was the first American movie filmed on location in Canada in 1942. #JamesCagney #CaptainsoftheClouds #Canada
Interestingly, because of the rigorous location shooting, #CaptainsOfTheClouds was filmed largely in a modified one-stripTechnicolor process instead of the more bulky standard three strip process. Its lush look is a tribute to the skills of DP Sol Polito (who was nominated for an Oscar.) #TCMParty
My mother grew up near an old RCAF training base long after WWII but as a kid she saw yellow "Harvards" (nicknamed maybe bc they were being used for training) all over the place around her small town because the RCAF had auctioned them off as surplus after the war. #CaptainsOfTheClouds #TCMParty
As a Canadian, it's hard not to be proud watching #CaptainsOfTheClouds. Filmed entirely in Canada-it's beautiful, includes the RCAF during wartime and our beloved WWI flying ace, Billy Bishop, as himself. Just saw the military parade scene in front of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa. 🇨🇦❤️ #TCMParty
Stepping for Jack Carson in #CaptainsOfTheClouds is none other than his good buddy, Dennis Morgan. Got Alan Hale and George Tobias too!

I might actually do a better Winston Churchill impression than the guy they got to do it in #CaptainsOfTheClouds, and that’s saying something. #TCMParty #SUTS

#CaptainsOfTheClouds isn’t top tier work from either star #JamesCagney or director Michael Curtiz; during production Cagney was concussed doing a stunt, DP Sol Polito suffered a heart attack, and Temu de Havilland Brenda Marshall is the love interest. But it does have a rousing theme song.

The Technicolor in #CaptainsOfTheClouds is incredible! And this print is fantastic-thanks @tcmtv.bsky.social! (The Warner Archive Blu-ray is worthwhile if you like this film btw.) #TCMParty

Lordy, Brenda Marshall was a very, VERY pretty girl. Yet, on screen, she didn't quite possess the quality that Elinor Glyn's sister would call "It." And I've always gotten the sense that Brenda (who preferred to be called by her real name, Ardis) couldn't care less.
