Disney and Gina Carano Settle Wrongful Termination Lawsuit The long-gestating legal battle between _The_ Mandalorian actress Gina Carano and The Walt Disney Company came to an end on Thursday, after the parties announced an out-of-court agreement had been reached. The case was to go to trial next month. A judge will now have to ratify the settlement. Carano filed her lawsuit in 2024 against Disney, Lucasfilm over wrongful termination. The actress was dismissed from _The Mandalorian_ in between Seasons 2 and 3, back in early 2021, after the companies repeatedly warned her to monitor her social media posts. After publishing a comparison between being a Republican voter in 2021 and a Jew during the Holocaust, Disney/Lucasfilm terminated their plans together, which included Carano leading a spin-off series from _The Mandalorian_. Though Disney tried to get the case dismissed, a judge allowed it to move to trial and set a September 2025 date for it. Carano’s legal defense was funded by Elon Musk, who followed up on his promise to finance, sparing no expenses, any wrongful termination suit against corporations to those who had been fired for expressing their views on social media. The lawsuit demanded that Disney and Lucasfilm reinstate her to her prior position, with no loss of pay or benefits, as well as compensatory damages of at lest $75,000. You can see more details on the lawsuit here. Lawyers for both sides filed a document with the following short statement: > “Pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 41(a)(1)(A)(ii), Plaintiff Gina Carano, on the one hand, and Defendants The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC, and Huckleberry Industries (US) Inc., on the other, by and through their undersigned counsel, hereby stipulate that this action and all claims, including all defenses asserted therein, be dismissed with prejudice.” Details on the settlement have not been made public yet, but Lucasfilm posted the following statement through a spokesperson to _Variety_: > “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.” Despite that last sentence, readers should not take away that Cara Dune will return to the MandoVerse effective immediately. In fact, it’s highly unlikely that she will. Most likely, Disney extended her a check and made the empty promise to consider calling her in the future. Since her departure, the storyline has flourished, with three TV spin-offs (_The Book of Boba Fett_ , _Ahsoka_ -which is currently filming a second season-, and _Skeleton Crew_), a soon-to-be-released feature film in _The Mandalorian and Grogu_ , and plans for another big-screen adventure directed by Dave Filoni. As of today, the future of Din Djarin beyond May 22, 2026, remains a bit of a mystery, but odds are that Cara Dune will not be a part of it. ##### Miguel Fernandez + posts Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. Disney settles lawsuit with fired 'Mandalorian' actress Gina Carano Walt Disney has resolved a legal dispute with actor Gina Carano over her firing from the "Star Wars" streaming TV series "The Mandalorian," a spokesperson for Disney unit Lucasfilm said on Thursday.

Spineless #Disney settled with Carano, probably bowing to pressure from Musk.

#Carano immediately invokes god as cover for her anti-trans pronouns "beep, bop, boop" tweet.

It would be a just world if she never again worked a paying acting job.

Lucasfilm and Gina Carano Have Settled Their Lawsuit The saga of Cara Dune vs. _Star Wars_ has come to an end. Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company have reached an agreement with actress Gina Carano in their legal dispute over her firing from _The Mandalorian._ “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies,” a spokesperson from Lucasfilm said. “Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.” This all began back in 2021 when io9 exclusively broke the news that Lucasfilm had parted ways with the star of _The Mandalorian_. The move came after months of complaints about Carano’s online presence, including mocking covid mask mandates, spreading conspiracies about the United States election, liking posts disparaging the Black Lives Matter movement, and deriding pronoun usage. Then, in 2024, Carano sued Lucasfilm for discrimination and wrongful termination, basically claiming none of that was against her contract and fell under free speech. Oh, and since much of it happened on Twitter, Elon Musk was helping to fund the lawsuit. “Some of us have been unjustly singled out, harassed, persecuted and had our livelihoods stripped away because we dared to encourage conversation, asked questions, and refused to go along with the mob,” Carano said in a statement at the time. A few months later, it seemed inevitable that the case would make it to court, when a judge claimed that Disney had “not identified any evidence—in the Complaint or otherwise—to substantiate a claim that they employ public-facing actors for the purpose of promoting the ‘values of respect,’ ‘decency,’ ‘integrity,’ or ‘inclusion.’” But now, that’s all over. The case has been settled. No monetary amount was revealed and is unlikely to be revealed. Now we wait to see if Lucasfilm is serious about “working together with Ms. Carano” in the near future, or just saying that. > Want more io9 news?
