Wonderful Weather! Earlier this morning, under blue skies with the sun shining, we delivered two artworks to be part of the Community Exhibition entitled "Weather" through the Carlisle Arts Learning Center at Bosler Memorial Library. The theme is open to interpretation; but, we selected two of our abstract artworks that have weather-related words in their titles! The artworks included are: "Breath, From The Four Winds" a 24x24" Acrylic on Canvas from May 2024 and "Eye of the Storm," a 9x12" Framed Acrylic on Canvas from January 2021. "Like the dandelion clocks, all blown and dispersed on the wind, my life has evaporated into the emptiness of a dream." - Anna Kavan Today's featured artwork pulls its title directly from a snippet of that quote, "Emptiness of a Dream" is a 20x10" Acrylic on Canvas from January 2026. This is one of the two most recently completed artworks to be included in Annual Members' Show: Dandelion at Carlisle Arts Learning Center. We delivered this work earlier this week, along with our other entry, for the upcoming exhibition which runs from February 13, 2026 through March 14, 2026. Opening Reception & Awards Ceremony to be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM. Artist's Statement / Backstory: When the theme was announced as dandelion I more immediately thought of the spherical presentation of white seeds more than the vibrant yellow normally more quickly associated with dandelions. I picture the wind as almost a dancer removing portions of its tutu as it sends those clocks out in to the wild blue yonder. The idea was simple, execution wasn't too bad; but, then came creating a title for this piece. When I was searching for dandelion seeds scattered I wasn't too happy with what was available until I stumbled across the quote I'm sharing above. I love the way in which it encapsulated everything from the dandelion, its clocks, the wind, and most certainly: the emptiness of a dream!

![We're starting off our 2026 Wednesday series with the quote, "I touch the future, I teach;" from Christa McAuliffe. This year will mark the fortieth anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster [which occurred in 1986]; but, her notion that educators shape tomorrow by guiding students today continues on as part of her legacy. This sentiment is also being carried through the "I Touch the Future" Exhibition occurring at Carlisle Arts Learning Center [38 W Pomfret Street, Carlisle, PA 17013] which opens this Friday, January 09, 2026 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. This show features one of our original artworks ["Sun's In My Eye," a 20x16" Mixed Media on Canvas from August 2024], and eight of our hand-painted scarves!
Artist's Statement / Backstory: When I first heard the show was being called "I Touch the Future" my gut reaction was cringy and gross. In taking a moment to pause and reflect on the sentiment of the quote, I realized it was beautiful and not as I'd initially thought it to be! My submissions for this show are the one mixed media composition and eight completely new scarf designs. As I've worked more and more with my acrylics on the silks over the past few years I've been watching how the colors bleed, move, mingle or separate, and can be layered with drying time. This grouping contains a few of my favorite designs to date; which hopefully means there are even more amazing things on the horizon in 2026!

Artist's Statement / Backstory: I've worked hard to collect, display, and enjoy the memories of Christmases past to decorate our home. I love scouring thrift store and antique markets to find the unusual and unique items displayed throughout the year; but, Christmas is always the most special. When thinking about my artwork, I realized that it wasn't reflecting my love for things of the past at the holiday time and I began painting to solve that problem! This is one of several artworks I've created showcasing a Christmas past that hopefully brings a smile to your face and a fond memory to the forefront of your mind. Today's featured artwork features one of the two plants mentioned in the quote: "Daucus Carota: Queen Anne's Lace," is a 48x28" Acrylic on Canvas from July 2025. A snippet of this artwork was featured two weeks ago when we shared how we were trying to do some batik artwork on a larger scale wall-hanging format. At that time we shared that we were awaiting the results of the jurying session for this piece; now, the results are in and this piece will be included in the exhibition! Closer to time, we'll be sharing more information on the "Unraveled" Fibers Exhibition to be held at CALC later in 2025!
Artist's Statement / Backstory: There's just something about Queen Anne's Lace that's held my fascination for years! I remember when I was younger, probably Middle School aged, I would sit with my sketchbook and work to capture each little floral bloom on the face of the flower as a late summer breeze moved the bloom I was so intently focused on. About ten years ago, I made a 12x12" acrylic painting, when I noticed their blooms amidst the wildflowers late in the day. [Images of that painting are available as cards and prints; which people always seem to respond positively when viewing.] Now I've created my largest piece featuring Queen Anne's Lace using layers of wax and color to achieve three large beautiful blooms!
