A dark frame of comb from a Langstroth bee hive. The wax is dark brown and a few cells have yellow-orange pollen packed in. There are maybe 2-3 dozen honey bees crawling on the comb, and one queen bee in the center of the picture with a green paint dot on her thorax. This variety of honey bee is known for having darker abdomens, though there are a few that are the more traditional golden color.
Here comes the Queen! This is my Carniolan queen whom I named Ljubljana. I am so glad she & her colony made it through the winter! First inspection of the year today, plenty of honey, some pollen, and 0 varroa mites!
