#CharlieWild End of walkthrough.

Do I recommend?

Not much in one ep to get me excited. As live TV it's unambitious.
John McQuade in his only lead role can't match the charisma of rival TV lead sleuth actors like Ralph Bellamy, Roscoe Karns, William Gargan, Lloyd Nolan, Lee Tracy and Edmund Lowe.

The ep isn't great to be fair but I'm not sure it's inferior a show than DuMont's "Rocky King, Detective". However I can see why it wasn't kept on the network while competing against very watchable stablemates on CBS #ManAgainstCrime and on DuMont #RockyKing.

Wild is in the working class private dick subgenre so not at all like a straight pro like Mike Barnett or learned like Martin Kane. You can definitely see the Sam Spade in him. As ever the dick is pals with the local cop captain.

#CharlieWild TV ep #3.02 "The Case of the Double Trouble" (20-Mar-52).
This ep is clearly a DuMont TV production as it looks real cheap. I imagine the CBS TV eps looked more expensive. Unsure re ABC's TV output. DuMont's new Tele-Centre isn't open yet but his show never make to the new Tele-Centre.

#CharlieWild The third lead actor was John McQuade who played the role 25-Mar-51 to 03-Jul-52.

15 x CBS Radio eps [โŒnone exist]

57 x CBS / ABC / DuMont TV eps [โœ…1 publicly exists]

I suspect most of 19 TV eps that exist privately in those archives will be McQuade as he seems to be the main guy?

11 x CBS Radio eps [โŒnone exist]

#CharlieWild The first lead actor was George Petrie who played the role 24-Sep-50 to 17-Dec-50.

13 x NBC Radio ep [โŒnone exist]

Ok that's a bad start but these NBC radio eps were essentially Sam Spade's name scribbled out with Charlie Wild scribbled on top it seems.

#CharlieWild As Dashiell Hammett and later Howard Duff got caught up in the Communist bullshit scare so NBC's top radio detective show "The Adventures of Sam Spade" was cancelled.

Yet the show continued the following week on NBC Radio with a new lead actor and a "new" detective named Charlie Wild.

#CharlieWild With nearly every ep that survives held in either in the UCLA Archive or the Paley Centre Archive this will be a super quick walkthrough.

I shall split it by lead actor much as I did on the #MartinKane walkthrough.

#CharlieWild was sponsered by Wildroot Hair oil. They ran adverts where Charlie Wild would solve a case where the main clue was Wildroot Hair Oil...
