CSIRO 350 job cuts a damning indictment on Government priorities, misses 'golden opportunity' on research The announcement this week that CSIRO are to cut 350 research jobs is another damning indictment on Australia’s ongoing failure to prioritise research and development.

Who would think that at this point in Australia’s economic transition we should be spending more, not less, on research and development…

Imagine if we taxed the gas industry and pant more on R&D…crazy talk … #cliamte

Climate Resilience: Agriculture Under Pressure: Climate Change and Morocco’s Food Security In 2025, Morocco entered its eighth consecutive year of drought . Reservoirs remain at record lows, food imports continue to rise, and small farmers struggle to survive. Climate change is no longer an abstract threat; it is reshaping Morocco’s agriculture in real time. The question is not whether the sector matters, it is the backbone of rural life, but whether Morocco’s agricultural policies can keep pace with this accelerating crisis.

The ‘Green’ Aviation Fuel That Would Increase Carbon Emissions The U.S. agriculture lobby has long promoted ethanol for cars. If President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” becomes law, the industry would be given tax credits for producing crop-based fuel for planes, ...

'Big Beautiful Bill' could pave the way for farm grown jet fuels, but it's not as green as it seems. Despite claims of sustainability, using crops like corn for aviation fuel may increase emissions and deforestation. #cliamte #Greenwashing

An example of mutual amplification:

we conclude that the temperature extremes are the result of an unprecedented combination of persistent weather patterns and interaction with the anomalously warm seas.

The anomalously warm air masses heading north from the Eurasian continent and North Atlantic continuously lost heat to the underlying seas, resulting in increased SSTs. Higher SSTs, in turn, reduced the heat loss experienced by subsequent air masses as they headed towards the Svalbard Archipelago. We now identify two mechanisms which enhanced this coupling with the Barents Sea.

Firstly, the southerly winds forced an eastward oceanic current anomaly through Ekman transport (Ekman, 1905) (Figures 2d–2f), especially enhanced in August (Figure 2f), drawing warm Atlantic water crossing the Norwegian Sea to the Svalbard Archipelago and Barents Sea region, resulting in increased SSTs.

Secondly, the Barents Sea region was less cloudy than usual in July and August, as indicated by ERA5 cloud fraction anomalies (Figures 2h and 2i). This is probably due to the anticyclone located over the Novaya Zemlya area (Figures 2b and 2c). In August in particular, parts of the Barents Sea had 30%–50% less cloud cover than normal, allowing abundant solar radiation to warm the sea surface (Figure 2i). This warming may be enhanced by complicated feedbacks between SST, radiative and turbulent surface fluxes, atmospheric boundary layer stratification and clouds (Vihma et al., 2014).

Southern Ocean heat uptake:

We find that the Subantarctic Mode Water (SAMW) variability does not only respond to the instantaneous atmospheric forcing, but the ocean acts as an integrator of the atmospheric forcing and has a memory of atmospheric conditions in previous years.

Ontario pitches nuclear power, new technology as alternative to carbon price | Globalnews.ca Energy Minister Stephen Lecce touted his new plan for the province's power grid as an environmental policy he said would be more effective than the carbon tax.

More #Cliamte misrepresentation from the #Ontario govt about both the outcome of their energy policies and the details of the Carbon Tax. Relying on costly and slow nuclear is not a bold new plan as our increasing reliance on natural gas shows.
