Males are predominantly green with a blue throat, a red breastband, and whitish underparts, while females are duller green with yellow-green underparts. They are agile birds that are often seen hovering at flowers to feed on nectar. Southern double-collared sunbirds are mainly resident, but are partially migratory in the north-east of their range.
