The Granite Schools have now upgraded every single classroom with proper ventilation, filtration, & installed #FARUV. With $86K left over, they decided to celebrate in #Vegas.

Kid's backpack #CovidCO2 measurements for a week. What's the difference that made it better? March break. No school.
Left: 2500 ppm from riding the school bus. High mid-day values 1200 ppm from an undersized ventilation system.
Right: 600-900 ppm in our home.
Video by TSI describes how to calculate the percent outdoor air using three CO2 measurements. When doing either temperature or CO2 sampling, keep in mind the device response rate, which is usually longer than the minimum sampling interval. #CovidCO2 https://youtu.be/QYaQpZ_6uOY
We have a problem with school bus ventilation. Given near zero masking there's no better way to spread respiratory illness in a community.
Surely regional MOH's can simply instruct student transportation companies to require some windows open? #COVIDCO2
Dr. P was overjoyed to hear that ventilation was excellent in his full waiting room. Masks required. There's a HEPA unit running full speed in every room. The pre-filter needs cleaning every two weeks because of high dust levels in the outdoor air supply #COVIDCO2
I could feel the air blowing and assume itโs filtered but it doesnโt seem that the arenaโs ventilation system is the right size for a capacity crowd. #covidco2
๐ฌ #COVIDco2 measurement of COโ in a backpack at a movie theatre (The Strand, Simcoe, ON) this morning. The steady rise indicates little to no ventilation. The air remained cool at 20ยฐC. Peak at the end was 2980 ppm, 6.8% rebreathed air, or 1 in 15 breaths shared.
Cirque du Soleil Toronto #covidco2 measurements up to intermission, reached 1295 ppm COโ. The venue is cooled with several external units.
Out here in Strausslandria where very few students and teachers are masked I'm thankful for the good ventilation in my daughter's classroom. Maximum was 700 ppm COโ for 2 minutes. Averaging 540-600 ppm. Two recess breaks clearly visible. #COVIDCO2
Yoga, 10 people in class. Two of us in earloop respirators. Iโve been thinking it would be difficult to do in a mask but it really wasnโt. #covidCO2
Restorative yoga. #covidCO2

Fear not nerds, I took readings! 636 ppm at lunch and 915 ppm with 3 people in a 6 person gondola with the windows open. #covidCO2
Having a COโ meter with visible display can enable an educator to be a manual version of a demand-controlled ventilation system, with control over the indoor environment using windows (Source: Di Gilio et al 2021, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34224708/ #COVIDCO2

Havenโt really been anywhere in a while and just noticed my CO2 monitor is out of calibration. Good to check outdoor readings from time to time. Easy to calibrate from within the app. #covidco2
For those school administrators who say โwe have a ventilation system, it meets or exceeds ASHRAE standardsโโThat's not enough. You MUST monitor #COVIDCO2. My daughter's fully ventilated classroom, from her backpack monitor, yesterday vs today:
Swiss study finds SIX TIMES the cases in poorly ventilated classrooms (those with over 2000 ppm COโ) compared to better-ventilated ones. #COVIDCO2

Uh oh @GEDSB. My daughter's classroom was doing well in the fall with COโ levels below 800 ppm, so I stopped sending the logger. After my presentation last night with @DFisman, I decided to check it again. #COVIDCO2 /1
Rebreathed fraction of air table from COโ concentration with "one in X breaths" that is inhaled.
Simple approximation: Every additional 400 COโ ppm above 400 ppm is another 1%. Google sheet:

despite ~ 75% occupancy CO2 only briefly reached 871 ppm

Once the CO2 reached about 2000 we could feel air moving and noted it dropped a bit and then stayed in that range. I am guessing the ventilation system turned on when the temperature went above a set point. #covidCO2
Indoor air quality in the news! Thank you @kimzarzour for writing about CO2 readings and how they can help identify safer indoor spaces. #covidCO2 www.yorkregion.com/news-story/10516295--wou...
The peak #covidco2 reading was 3736. Lots of masks off to drink and singing along. ๐ฎโ๐จ
Small commercial #COVIDCO2 example. Rooftop unit providing heating/cooling/ventilation set to Auto. Mild day, temperature outside is close to the temperature inside. Thermostat is satisfied, so NO #ventilation. Notified staff. Changed fan status from AUTO to ON. โ๏ธ
Lent my @AirQ007 CO2 monitor to an Ontario teacher friend, results were good, only one spot with 800ppm, the rest well under. Such a relief! #covidCO2
EnRoute stop on the 401. ๐ฝ ๐ฌ #covidCO2
If COโ loggers aren't provided by schools, resourceful parents will do it clandestinely, like with this Minecraft character-based box cover for an Aranet 4 logger. #COVIDCO2 @rye_b https://https://t.co/gxyzsU28w3
Time to do a monthly calibration! At least they all agree the air in here is pretty good :) #covidCO2
Morning commute and with the A/C on in the car on โautoโ the system evidently was in recirculating mode. CO2 reached well over 2000 ppm. Reminder if youโre riding in a car with others to keep your mask on, open windows and ensure system is set to โฌ ๏ธ not โฉ๏ธ. #covidCO2
