Hey #jazzsky - anyone out there got a copy of audio engineer Irv Greenbaum's book "In One Ear and in the other"?
I'm open to buying or borrowing it. I'll pay return postage and to putting a deposit down + finding something agreeable to show my thanks for the loan!

A full 6-years before the #creedtaylor produced Grammy Hall Of Fame album by #billevans "Conversations With Myself" was released to both critical acclaim and attacked for being a gimmick.
Creed quietly took a chance on two albums with #zootsims - both albums used a form of overdubbing
Like any 20-something kid in a new job at a big company you have to do jobs you'd rather not.
In this case for Verve, it was one Creed Taylor recorded on the way out of the door. Who is the singer?

Been a busy few days ripping CD's, removing sticky price labels from covers and doing more vinyl to digital conversions. Something very catchy about Hodges on this album, but Grant Green is excellent! produced by #creedtaylor #verve

There’ll probably be an in-person concert series for the 11 top jazz men featured tn Creed Taylors newv ABC-Paramount album. Know Your Jazz ” This fine disk has men like Tony Scott. Oscar Pettiford and the great guitarist, Mundell Lowe. Taylor would conduct and serve as MC for the tour.
I had to look up Mundell Lowe and no this didn't happen and wouldn't have. "probably" doing all the work here!

it uses none of the sidemen Creed had used in the past, or would use in the future. Grady Tate lead the beat on drums, and Artie Butler, yes that Artie, did percussion. Otherwise the rest were classical musicians.

ART FARMER/JIM HALL: Big Blues (CTI 7083) — A pleasant, low-key album pitting two masters of elliptical understatement together in the same Creed Taylor studio. This unusual session is filled out by drummer Steve Gadd, vibist Mike Mainieri and bassist Michael Moore. The recording is squeaky clean, the music itself cooler than cool.
Now that's a review. From the San Francisco chronicle, may 13 1979

Morning all. Yesterday I finished a restoration of this 1958 #CreedTaylor produced flamenco album by Romani Sabicas who left Spain during the Spanish Civil War and fled to Mexico.
This was his first NYC produced album for ABC Paramount. Vocals on this album are provided by Enrique Montoya.

A picture of the CD artwork for the album this spoke z evolution. Features a brown based background with the outline of a saxophone player in a white relief.
Little known, final album as CD on the #ctirecords #Kudu label, and the last ever original album produced by #creedtaylor saw the return of #groverwashingtonjr and a great idea of what Terry Silverlight could do as a writer and producer

Calling an artist or album unsung is just as easy as calling an artist or album mainstream. To me this is an absolute masterpiece, second to almost none in my personal realm. And this also wasn’t a very tough call tbh. Any other pinnacles of jazz? #stangetz #creedtaylor #vervejazz #sweetrain
picture of the cover of Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery's Verve album "The Dynamic Duo" - the two black men have their arms interlocked, both trying to eat a sandwich. Montgomery is wearing a pork-pie style hat.
Morning! (at least it still is just about here) in honor of tonight's Rocky Mountain PBS jazz night. Two awesome documentaries one on #Wesmontomery and the Long Walk about #Denver resident Charlie Burrell.

One of the classics. Bob James from '74.
Fond memories of finding this in 80's Dublin - knew it had a break but never heard the full song. Couldn't get home on the bus quick enough to listen. Mind blown.

#CreedTaylor was just 25-years old when he convinced Gus Wildi to let him produce Chris and she needed to change direct.
ending the afternoon with the final 14 tracks of a 100 track, 5-hour #jackteagraden marathon. Believe it or not, #creedtaylor was enamored with Teagarden and recorded 4x albums for #verve just before Jack died.
Taylor first recorded Teagarden in 1954 for Bethlehem but it was uncredited.
He was still working in a department store when his first #Kudu album came out, he got to put it in the racks.
You can find all this plus at least 2x live sets; a ctproduced mix and so much more. www.ctproduced.com/jazzjump/

downbeat magazine clipping reads "Respect Creed, Too! 50 years on and people still think it makes them “hip” to take shots at the first great commercial jazz music producer. (As Laurence Svirchev did in Chords & Discords June 2024.) Creed Taylor implicitly understood that great jazz musicians deserved to be heard and deserved to make money. When Creed started producing, selling 5,000 jazz records was un- heard of, much less tens of thousands. Randy Weston’s CTI album Blue Moses was Weston’s most successful in sales. It is con- sidered by many to be one of the best albums on CTI, which is saying something alongside Hubbard’s Red Clay, Stanley Turrentine’s Sug- ar and others. Weston himself acknowledged in his auto- biography (African Rhythms: The Autobiogra- phy of Randy Weston, Duke University Press) that Blue Moses was a miracle, saying, “If it wasn’t for Blue Moses, I never would have been able to pay all those musicians. It was truly a miracle.” "
Look mum, I made downbeat January 2025 issue!
