The criminal justice system can be difficult to navigate and understand, especially for families of people living with mental illness. To help families navigate this complex system, NAMI has developed a new guide: nami.org/NCJM

#CriminalJusticeMonth
March is #CriminalJusticeMonth, serving as a reminder that individuals living with mental illness are overrepresented in jails. About 2 million times a year, people with mental illness are booked into jails — often for reasons related to symptoms of their untreated illness.
As we close out #CriminalJusticeMonth, we reflect on why this time is so important: to raise awareness of the deep inequities in our criminal legal system and to spark conversations that can lead to change. One area where these inequities are especially clear is in the use of life sentences.
#NationalCriminalJusticeMonth is a time to spark conversations and drive action toward systemic change, including rethinking parole policies. At UnCommon Law, we believe healing should be at the center of justice. #CriminalJusticeMonth #HealingJustice #TraumaInformedCare
