🎯 We find that elite persistence remained high in global comparison throughout the period, while #criticaljunctures only had a temporary effect.

We contend that this result can be attributed to three mechanisms of persistence:
📌inheritance,
📌institutional co-optation and
📌limited franchise

🌎 We focus on one of the most extremely #unequal societies in the world, the West Indies, over the long run and study #elite persistence and the effects that significant economic, institutional, and social changes, #criticaljunctures, had on it.
