Am having an absolute blast with this show. Whilst I enjoyed the rehearsals, I’m never sure what the audience will think. But it’s all come together brilliantly and ppl are really connecting with the subject matter, despite it being set in 1898.

* I can’t read music very well so need the recordings to learn and they’re not there yet

Had another audition for a play called Blue Stockings. Started off by going to the wrong place - ooops - but got there 20 mins later.

Have not heard whether I have a recall so I’m assuming I haven’t which means I won’t have got any of the parts I particularly wanted. Bit disappointed but that’s how it is.

The other part is have liked to have a go at, I didn’t get a look in. It was a male part and one of the bad guys and I’m not superficially ‘hard’ or ‘menacing’ looking … but I think I can act it. Unfortunately I’m also very short and often ppl can’t look past that. Ho hum

I do genuinely understand why people are continually cast because if you’re committed to the group and have shown reliability as well as talent then in an amdram group it’s a much better idea to go for the known.
But it’s darn hard when you’re on the outside trying to break in

The other piece for the other part was fine, and I managed to wangle some characterisation reading in for other roles, so I’m hoping it’s at least enough to earn me a recall.

Audition yesterday for new show with new group. Think it went ok. However group are a bit cliquey and the parts I was going for there will be competition for from two long-standing members.
Looking back I wasn’t given the best piece to read for one of the parts I’m going for.

Had an excellent week last week.
Saw three shows (Scandaltown, Just for one Day and Police Cops) had two rehearsals, and then a belated birthday dinner last night. And was given an excellent gift of a Shakespeare jigsaw showing scenes from all his plays.

A prestigious amdram group was holding auditions for Richard III. I knew the odds, knew I had a snowball’s chance in hell, but went for it anyway because it’s 2024 and I’ve decided it’s my va-va-voom year.
It paid off.
Over 70 ppl auditioned and I made it to the cast of 20. 🎭
