Me in The Bookseller. I have been unable to attract funding from ACE or RSL, but thanks to brilliant support across industry the prize has happened anyway
So it’s changing form and I’m thinking it through. #Curae remains unique in the UK and it’s here to stay 💙📚
There will be an online launch on the 12th of a November, free to attend. Details this week. It’s the last #curae prize as a writing competition. After this, it becomes a foundation with publicly raised money for writing courses for carers, including young carers. That’s not all - read on!
Also, we have multiple awards won, wonderfully organised writing competitions and fund-raising texts, such as my own #Curae, for unpaid carers. Hmm. Tote bags. Special editions. Cards. The books have such beautiful design and artwork: it’s impeccable. The press is so well organised and communicative

Curae: the unique literary prize for unpaid carers
In November the 2nd & final #curae anthology is published by @renardpress.com with all profits, as in 2023, to @carerstrust.bsky.social and Carers UK. Beyond? I’m establishing the Curae Foundation to offer a substantial scholarship for online creative writing study or research for an unpaid carer!
Putting this out there. 2026 is looking so much clearer for me and we are on the last year of my #Curae writing prize in its current form. I’ve written across form and I’m also a floating Creative Writing academic. I’m aware that there have been awful staff cuts in Creative Writing at universities
I'd add that I am an advocate for a lot of people and you see that is also for my family, in which there are complex needs and that takes time and energy and you need to recover from sticking it to the man, right? I made #Curae because I understand it and see its need, after all. I would say this...

Catching up with queries about the next #Curae writing prize for unpaid carers. When will it be? Alas, this is the last one. Curae and its associated project for young carers never attracted funding. Everyone is a volunteer & the 3x £500 bursaries were from donations from you lovely lot.
FOR YOUR DIARY
Publication date for the second #Curae anthology - images soon - is the 15th of November and we will be launching it online on the 12th of November at 7pm. Meanwhile, a reminder of WHY I made this literary award for unpaid carers.

Bookbrunch announcement
9. I pitched an expansion of my teaching series and so we were able to announce that 2 books had grown to five. Hooray! And better get to work!
10. Pressed on with our beautiful #Curae prize winners. Best thing ever they are.
What do you think?
First of all, my 11th book is out next year and only two of my books are agented. I became agented on my fourth book, but I’m hard to place because I’m a weirdo - but honestly, it’s good I spread my bets, as it turned out! This November the anthology from my #Curae prize is out with my introduction
And PS: we also have addditional mentoring slots for entrants, which I am organising now. WOC, writer of refugee status, WC, LGTBQIA + this year an additional slot for a trans writer because we're allies ❤️
More soon. Anthology publication 15th November. Cover reveal & details coming soonest! #Curae
#Curae can be fun; a focus; distraction: it's what you need. However, it is also there to encourage entrants to prioritise creative work, endeavour and ambition and that can be tough. Because I bring specific experience to the prize, I can suggest ways to work - and also to work around things.
I'd like to big up what we have offered in the #Curae literary prize for unpaid carers and invite industry press, once more, to look at something extraordinary which people from across industry have helped me to put together a second time. It's still flying under the radar too much. LET'S GO!
I agonised over my #Curae prize entries. Finally, I don’t think I could tolerate rejecting really good, even brilliant work because I knew I would not be able to sell it. I think that must be a difficult thing to carry , surely? So anyway, don’t be daft.

Inaugural Curae anthology cover
I don’t think there will be anything as important for me in writing and publishing as #Curae, the literary prize I started in 2023. This is because of the help and support we can give carers, the creative opportunities we can put in their way and the people we can introduce them to. It’s unique
Just catching up: I am so proud of you. Elizabeth’s beautiful work was also shortlisted for the #curae. It’s wonderful to see! ❤️🎉

There are some beautiful pals here, but my biggest delight is that our #Curae prize poetry winner Charlotte Ansell is on the list.
1. If a writing competition publicly makes derogatory comments about other competitions, that’s a MASSIVE red flag. Why? Because it’s an ecosystem! I run the #Curae, a small prize specifically for unpaid carers. I’m STILL supported & advised by much bigger guns - including in prizes offered
