New #DEACoastlines annual shoreline data for 2024 is now live! ππ°οΈπ
2024 was a relatively stable year for coastal change across Australia, with mostly moderate and balanced rates of growth and retreat across our coastline.

Yay for Bluesky on @altmetric.com!
My favourite paper is our 2021 #DEACoastlines coastal erosion mapping study, using satellite data π°οΈ and tide modelling π to reveal how Australian's coastline has changed since 1988! (spoiler: not as much as you'd think!)

Thankyou! Yep, we've previously mapped out classic rates of change in our #DEACoastlines dataset (maps.dea.ga.gov.au/story/DEACoa...), but that that only tells a tiny part of the picture.
The next step is characterising coastal change in all directions: up, down, across, in and out!
Another really interesting article from @dr_tom_oliver - always so fascinating to see how short-term satellite-derived coastal change rates from #DEACoastlines match up to the far, far longer OLS/Holocene record!

#DEACoastlines has an updated, easier-to-share URL! The old link should keep working, but recommend updating your bookmarks anyway! ππ°οΈ

Great to see some of our #DEACoastlines results featured in this great piece by @RoyceRk2 in @GuardianAus, putting some of Australia's most dramatic local #coastalerosion hotspots into the national context

Most excitingly, the entire #DEACoastlines dataset is available to explore in your browser on the interactive #DEAMaps platform!
Zoom in to your local beach and click on the map to explore how it has changed over the past three decades!

A huge thanks to @ajggeoger and @map_andrew for inviting me on to the @EOSceneFrom podcast!
Had a great time chatting about the new #DEACoastlines coastal change dataset, the @GeoscienceAus #DigitalEarthAU datacube, the @OpenDataCube project, and #dataviz in remote sensing!

Finally, if you discover an impressive example of coastal change using DEA Coastlines, we'd love to see it: take a screenshot and post it with the #DEACoastlines hashtag!
We plan to continually update + improve the product, so please get in touch if you have any feedback/ideas!
