As I noted in my remarks, these are all preliminary thoughts, but I think such shifts and others (like the one Darren Chng mentioned re: limits of transferring “AI training data” stemming from one of China’s regional frameworks, will continue and be better defined within the next 5 years. #DPC24 END

'Kicking off' day 2 afternoon #DPC24 with session on 'Tackling Privacy & AI Regulatory Developments in the EU & Asia Pacific' - with Joanna Lopatowska (Mastercard) noting the varied (fragmented) nature of the comprehensive data protection laws in Asia Pacific.

Noted at 'U.S. Privacy Patchwork' session #DPC24 that it's difficult to summarise all 19 of the current state privacy laws, & that there's variations across each of these state laws - & so they need to be figured out on a state by state basis. But here is the (best) summary from this session:

Top tip with 3000 people at the conference and the biggest theatre having 1300 seats, you have two options at #DPC24

1) be really early. Like skip the networking breaks

2) watch it in the streaming area - not ideal, but better than nothing.

3) ignore the planned programme and chat in the halls

I’ve totally failed to live post from #IAPP #DPC24. The reason for this is that I haven’t made a single panel after the keynote - too many conversations in the halls. The #CorridorTrack is always my favourite anyway.

The #DPC24 WiFi signal also seems to be stuck on the elevators and is sorely missed at the current session in the Gold Hall.

In Brussels at 'Generative AI: Building Privacy into AI Products & Applications' #DPC24 - where panel chair noted tensions here re 'purpose limitation' & 'lawfulness', along with 'transparency' -both here cause purpose is not clear & also as not clear how to explain the deep learning.
