#DaeJangGeum, aka Jewel in the Palace, from 2003. It is set during the same time in Korean history as #BonAppetitYourMajesty, and also focuses on cooking, but that is the end of the similarities. This is a slow, beautiful show about an orphan who rises to become a royal court lady and then a doctor.
Lee Young-ae as Jang-geum wears a white hanbok and red ribbon in her hair. She is holding a wooden box under her right arm. Her left arm is extended to drop ashes. Her face is solemn. Behind her are misty mountains and grey sky.
Day 21: Stunning Cinematography
#DaeJangGeum is from 2003, so the standards for cinematography are not the same as today. Yet this classic kdrama is memorable for its visual beauty. One moment that stands out is when Jang-geum mourns her adoptive mother surrounded by mountains.

A #KDrama English title that is fundamentally different from the Korean? #DaeJangGeum and #ForestOfSecrets say "pull up a chair and join our very large club"
One thing I liked about #cDrama #GoGoSquid is that the FL was doing her SECOND Ph.D and the ML openly admitted she was his intellectual superior. It is till date the only #CDrama I've seen with an FL like that. To be fair, the only #kDrama I've seen with a genius FL was #DaeJangGeum
Lee Young-ae as Jang Geum in Dae Jang Geum. She is wearing a traditional Korean court lady robe with red sleeves and a white apron. She is arranging a dish of traditional Korean food. She is in an old fashioned Korean building with red pillars and a tile roof.
Day 6: Chef
I was waiting for someone to mention #LeeYoungAe as Jang Geum in #DaeJangGeum aka #JewelInThePalace. Impossible to talk about chefs in Asian dramas without mentioning her. There are restaurants named after her all over the world, including one near me in metro Detroit.

I haven’t seen these shows, but I enjoyed your write-up & selection of tracks. #OrangeDays #DaeJangGeum #LoveContract & #Sweet18 were my favourites. It was also nice that they incorporated the sign-language scene at the end of the music video for #OrangeDays “Aren’t you embarrassed saying that?” 😊
TFW you're conscientiously adding alt text to every image in a series of blog posts you're writing and think "to hell with it, they should know what 'eponymous' means' 😂 #KDrama #DaeJangGeum
I really wish Viki would pick up some of these older classics - they’ve picked up a few recently, but not this one or #DaeJangGeum (which is at the top of the older classics list)
Recent mention of #KDrama #DaeJangGeum (I REFUSE to use the stupid English name) reminded me of the one truly lasting impact of watching it. It was 11 years ago I watched it so I don't remember the OST, except this one - which felt like it was the ENTIRE OST. 😀

I'm sure that I was probably urged to watch it when I first got into #KDrama back in 2013, but medieval politics isn't really my thing. Although I did make an exception for medieval KITCHEN politics with #DaeJangGeum 😀
