Today is the birthday of renowned Cork artist #DanielMaclise (1806-1870).
Born on Sheares Street, Maclise’s work was often inspired by historical events and literary works, as can be seen here in his painting Lear and Cordelia, a scene from Shakespeare’s King Lear.
