I have finally reached the furthest point Iโ€™ve previously read in the book I started eight times since 2022 (life made me put it down each time). Iโ€™m so happy now everything will be new to me! ๐ŸŽ‰

I have SO many mixed feelings about this book.

I liked
๐ŸŸข The imagery and descriptions were lovely
๐ŸŸข I thought Liwei and Wenzhi were cool; they seemed pretty distinct and different from each other with their relationship with Xingyin.
๐ŸŸข The individual adventured were interesting themselves, but there were problems.

I did not like:
๐Ÿ”ด Xingyin was frustrating. I didn't feel like she had much of a character besides "hi im new and im good at everything." Its baffling to me that she was able to attract the two waring princes. It felt like the old mary-sue trope. also i get that she might have inherited a talent with a bow from her father but she never trained as a child, so to suddenly be the best that ever was in a few months is wacky to me.
๐Ÿ”ด The plot was all over the place. It moved SO fast; nothing felt very impactful or like it had stakes. And the random time skips didn't help. I didn't connect with Xingyin and Liwei's relationship because it was "oh they go along" to "suddenly two years later and they're SUPER close and secretly in love." She was also able to do this impossible task of getting the pearls from the dragons in no time at all. She was the first person that was nice to them so they gave her the power to control them? sure. Also why did the jade bow connect with her? Why is no one surprised? They made it seem like there was something super special about her, so I was also expecting her father to not actually be Houyi but nope.
๐Ÿ”ด while I liked the boys, I wish there was more to them. They were distinct in their personalities, but they were a bit bland until the end where we actually got to see the true Wenzhi. Liwei never really stepped up like that to me because we never saw the true him. I also just didn't believe their relationships with Xingyin.

anyway I didn't find myself hating this. It just wore on me the longer I went on. I don't think I'll read the second one, but I'll probably read the other books from this author, like Immortal.

I really liked #DaughterOfTheMoonGoddess by Sue Lynn Tan. It even had a love triangle that was so well-written that I didn't mind it. It was a fun mythical adventure story. Had a pretty good twist towards the end with satisfying follow up afterward. Delighted to find out it has a sequel!

Reading #DaughterOfTheMoonGoddess by Sue Lynn Tan. I'm about halfway through and enjoying it quite a lot. The plot is incorporating a web of interactions from many characters while still having a tense, focused conflict progressing. A relief after reading novels that dragged or didn't make sense.

It's got the complex world building + diverse character cast that #ThePrioryoftheOrangeTree does... The tangible impact + influence of the gods that #DarkShores does... And the beautiful cultural elements that #DaughteroftheMoonGoddess does... PLUS a 3/5 spice level ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

- Great immersion into Chinese mythology

- A strong female protagonist who isnโ€™t flat/one dimensional

- Good plot twist(s)

There were also a few parts that do a great job pulling on the heartstrings.
