Small dawn redwood in a sheltered location. The branches are fairly sparse, but it's wearing it's lovely coat of peachy needles which will soon fall off. A Norway spruce is in the background, as well as general brush.
A large dawn redwood, still almost fully green. a bit of house can be seen to the right, and a large holly is behind it. One of my favorite trees.

Pre-Bonsai Dawn Redwood update: 2 out of 3 are still alive. All the leaves of each tree died, 2/3 made new buds. The one in the 25 gal pot is moving a bit quicker. We named that one ‘Alice’. They are in potting soil with slow-release fertilizer. #bonsai #DawnRedwood #trees

anyone with #dawnredwood experience know if these guys are gonna make it? they arrived pretty yellow and crispy looking, and haven’t changed in the first week in these pots. i’m in zone 5a. i can’t tell if it’s shock from replanting, frost, or they’re just dead already…or they’re fine? #bonsai
