His best-known work On the Road made him an icon of the countercultural Beat Generation, though Kerouac disliked labels in general and that one specifically. He was a kind of nomad who searched for authenticity and he expressed his own by relentlessly putting words to paper. Every tap on the keys of his typewriter was like a step and every story was a way of contem- plating the things he saw or anticipating what might be around the next bend.

For the longest time I have wanted to go to #mounttamalpais . I think it started with the #dharmabums as a teenager. Since then bike videos . Hiking videos etc . This bike ride video by #jamesyoung captures the views and the magic . 🚲❤️.

Kerouac's #DharmaBums got me interested in mountains & wilderness, Sierra Club got me out into it: first as Service Trip participant, then as cook, ultimately paving the way for my move to San Francisco.
