Just another periodic #DickensGreenway appreciation post
The #DickensGreenway traffic diverter is working great and looking beautiful with a new bike rack and springtime blossoms! Thankful to have this in our neighborhood @AldKnudsen43
Curious what the bike lanes of #DickensGreenway look like? Here are photos from Lincoln to Stockton 🧵
Truths about the #DickensGreenway
1/ It’s literally 3 mm of white and green paint on the ground and legal permission to ride or scooter eastbound 2/ There are two-way streets called Armitage and Webster one short block away for alternate use by drivers or anyone else
Looking good, #DickensGreenway ! Thank you @AldKnudsen43 and all your staff for continued support of this project, and for seeing it through to reality!
On Stockton Drive, which goes through a park, right next to the zoo and children’s playgrounds, people drive WAY faster than 25 MPH and ignore stop signs.
I took these four videos today in the course of three minutes. #DickensGreenway
There were a lot of people walking and jogging through here even on an overcast, freezing day. This feature of the #DickensGreenway will cut car traffic and make the area much better for people walking and biking. /End 🧵
The new traffic diverter on Dickens between Lincoln Park West and Stockton is working well. Here’s what I saw today #DickensGreenway 🧵
The new Dickens/Stockton diverter has shown up already on Apple maps! Drivers can no longer cut through, making it safer for everyone else. #DickensGreenway
The #DickensGreenway has a few bump outs being installed, which is great, but it feels like overall slow progress? Only a few more weeks left in construction season, I think 🧵
What’s in the newest Chicago Cylcling Strategy for Lincoln Park? Installation of #DickensGreenway and maybe protected lanes on parts of Halsted. Would be nice. 1/3
Brian Comer says he’ll stop the #DickensGreenway from being built. He claims he’s in favor of all of it except that it goes near the hill in Oz Park where kids go sledding and that makes it too dangerous for everyone? What?!? #bikeCHI vote for Timmy Knudsen
The Lincoln Park portion of the 43rd Ward only has about 15 east-west streets and 15 north-south streets, so we’re talking 1-2 streets in either direction. The #DickensGreenway will already be a great start to the bike grid. 3/4
Victory!! The #DickensGreenway is officially going to be installed!! From Ald. Smith’s newsletter today. I can’t wait to use it. #bikeCHI
The #DickensSharedStreet can be used by families and hesitant bike riders to reach destinations like Clybourn shops on the west, and the Nature Boardwalk on the east. Map by @streetsblogchi #DickensGreenway #bikeCHI
Uodate on the #DickensSharedStreet It goes from Clark on the east and ends at Racine. Some barrels were pushed aside (I put them back into their circles). I saw more people beginning to walk and bike on it, including two families. #DickensGreenway
The #SharedStreets on Dickens has orange construction barrels, which is a good temporary fix, but in the longer term, more graceful design elements should be used on the #DickensGreenway
The Shared Street on Dickens is being installed today and it works great! Very clear that drivers are allowed, but they are invited guests. #DickensGreenway
I'm excited that Dickens from Stockton to Racine in Lincoln Park will become a Shared Street soon. It'll be a nice way to test out the future #DickensGreenway http://disq.us/t/3q1dlx4
