Me: *guesses that my little stroke patient has trouble w/ some foods (& pretends not to like them instead of admitting it)*
Patient: how do you know this stuff?
Me: well I'm a brain doctor. & I had a stroke too.

A note to parents:
Your child does not have to hug me if they don't want to. You don't have to make them do it.
Signed,
An ex-shy child who grew up into a not very huggy adult who still remembers how much she hated being forced to hug & kiss strangers

Not sure where I picked up the phrase "flappy hands are happy hands" but I definitely used it when I was reassuring a parent about #stimming today...

#DispatchesFromClinic: my patient lifted her shirt to show me her brand new compression vest
Mom: she wasn't too sure about it at first but she loves it now
Me: Oh? What changed?
Mom: we got the dog a thundershirt.
Patient: now we match!
More #DispatchesFromClinic: I always ask my patients, even the little ones, if it's ok to touch them before I do. Today, one mom asked me why.
Me: Because it's her body & she should know that she can say no.
Mom: Well none of my doctors have ever asked me that
Rushed out without my breakfast & my stomach has been protesting all morning. After one particularly loud growl my little patient looked at me curiously, handed me her baggie full of Cheerios, and said "it's snack time now."
