Thinking about the similarities between Lothlórien and #Doriath & the differences between their rulers. Two golden shielded forest realms run by a silver-haired Sinda royal and his eldritch powerful wife, but the ruling partnerships & (as a result?) their realms' role in events are v different /

I guess if you follow through w/ the analogy this makes #Doriath the equivalent of 1960s Paris & the Sindar greeting the Noldor with gifts of flowers and poststructuralist theory, which: yes fine I’m good with that.

Thinking of the snowdrop-like niphredil growing in #Doriath & then Lothlórien. We know how mallorn trees got there b/c it’s a story of seeds as royal gifts, but niphredil must have been quietly saved and protected and nurtured for generations outside the story; someone saving traces of Doriath.

Still hung up on this from Ardalambion about the etymology of #Doriath - "how could a stem primarily having to do with caves yield a word for "fence"? Are we to assume a semantic development "cave" > "place one cannot escape from" > "prison/dungeon" > "bounded area" > "fenced area" > "fence"?"

will also be using #Doriath as a tag for general Doriath headcanon or speculation posts

What happens in Doriath remains in Doriath.
