7 Restaurants Within Walking Distance of the Ohio Theatre in Downtown Columbus Plan for dinner and a show in Downtown Columbus with one of these restaurants that are within walking distance of the Ohio Theatre. From fancy to casual, there’s a restaurant that’s got what you’re looking for to complete the perfect night out! Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or taking the kids out for dinner before or after a matinee, there are plenty of restaurants in Downtown Columbus that will allow you to park just once for dinner and a show. ## A few tips for a successful dinner in Downtown Columbus: * Always make reservations! Restaurants fill up on show nights. If you want to beat the rush, plan to arrive as early as possible. * I find the easiest parking to be at the Columbus Commons Garage at 55 E. Rich St. in Columbus. There is typically a flat rate for parking in the garage for events. * Cheaper parking options can be found at the Ohio Statehouse Garage (typically $5) or by finding street parking and using the ParkColumbus App. I’m a huge fan of finding street parking. It’s often only about $3-$4 to park for the evening. * Always give yourself extra time. If you’re new to Downtown Columbus and finding parking, give yourself at least an extra 30 minutes of wiggle room. ### 1. Pat & Gracies * Address: 121 S High St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website * Walking distance from Ohio Theatre: 0.1 miles It’s hard to beat Pat & Gracies when it comes to walking distance between the restaurant and the Ohio Theatre! Clocking in at 0.1 miles away and a 2-minute walk, the convenience is unmatched. Here’s how convenient it is: during the big snowstorm in January of 2026, friends and I had dinner plans at a different downtown restaurant before seeing Les Misérables, but after the snow, we moved our reservation here so we didn’t have far to walk! Luckily, the food is good, too! The burgers are my go-to at Pat & Gracies! I’m a classic burger girl and I think theirs are well-seasoned and delicious. Another fun pre-show treat is that Pat & Gracies will have themed drinks such as these Les Misérables-inspired cocktails pictured below! ### 2. Sidebar * Address: 122 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website * Walking distance from Ohio Theatre: 0.4 miles Sidebar is probably our #1 go-to restaurant when it comes to dinner before a show in Downtown Columbus! I hate to pick favorites, but the Happy Hour here is incredible! The best way to experience Sidebar is with a group of people. The restaurant specializes in tapas, or small plates that are made for sharing. If everyone picks two or three dishes, it’s enough to feed the table. At the time of writing, the Happy Hour is Monday – Friday, 4:00 – 6:00 pm, dine-in only and it features $9, $10 and $11 tapas and $16 pizzas. There is also a selection of drinks, cocktails and desserts on the Happy Hour Menu. The ambience in the restaurant feels special, yet it’s not pretentious, and you can dress anywhere from casual to formal and fit right in. (This restaurant is also 0.2 miles from the Southern Theatre, so it’s a great option if you’re seeing a concert with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra or another performance there!) ## 3. Butcher & Rose * Address: 155 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website * Walking distance from Ohio Theatre: 0.3 miles Butcher & Rose is in a league of its own when it comes to dining in Downtown Columbus. This is more than just eating; it’s an experience. This restaurant has all the vibes you’re looking for in a special night out. Butcher & Rose is a steakhouse and a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant. There is a dress code here, and the word they use to describe it is “polished”. If you’re celebrating a special occasion or want to make your dinner-and-a-show an experience to remember from start to finish, make your reservation at Butcher & Rose. Check out this list of 60 date ideas in Columbus for more inspiration! ## 4. House Taco * Address: 79 S 4th St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website * Walking distance from Ohio Theatre: 0.2 miles House Taco is another great casual spot to have dinner in Downtown Columbus! The menu is inventive and the vibe is super friendly. Our whole family ate here after seeing The Nutcracker at the Ohio Theatre on a Sunday afternoon! It’s kid-friendly and they have a Kids Menu for kids age 12 and under. Don’t let the name fool you, there’s more on the menu here than tacos! (Though you can never go wrong with tacos!) One of my favorite things I’ve had here is the Crispy Rice pictured above! These rice balls were delicious! They also have bowls, nachos and queso mac on the menu. YUM! My stomach is growling just writing this. Here are some more great taco spots in Columbus! ### 5. Tiger + Lily * Address: 19 E Gay St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website * Walking distance from Ohio Theatre: 0.3 miles Tiger + Lily offers a great Asian comfort food experience. If you consider noodles and bone broth comfort food, and I certainly do! Their meals are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Not only are they delicious, but they’re also pretty to look at! I’ve had several meals at Tiger + Lily and I haven’t been disappointed! A friend and I went recently and just ordered a slew of appetizers from the menu – that was super fun! They also have an interesting selection of bubble teas on the menu. Tiger + Lily is about a 7-minute walk from the Ohio Theatre, and it’s a great spot for a light dinner before a show. ### Sign Up for Our Newsletter! Aracri Pizzeria * Address: 51 E Gay St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website * Walking distance from Ohio Theatre: 0.4 miles We love the pizza at Aracri Pizzeria on Gay St. In addition to pizza, they also have Italian dishes like calzones, subs, and pasta dishes, including lasagna, rigatoni, and chicken parmigiana with spaghetti. We usually just get pizza and garlic knots! But I have no doubt the other dishes are just as good. This is a really great option for kid-friendly dining in downtown Columbus if you’re going to see a show with the whole family. (P.S. this restaurant is even closer to the Palace Theatre if you happen to be seeing a show there!) You can also check out my list of things to do with kids in Downtown Columbus to plan an outing! There are a few tables to sit at towards the back of the restaurant, and in front, the area is lined with bar seating. The space is small, but the vibe is cozy and relaxed. There’s definitely a neighborhood feel here with regulars constantly coming in to pick up takeout. But even if it’s your first time, you’ll feel welcomed and comfortable! ### 7. The Spaghetti Warehouse * Address: 150 S High St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website * Walking distance from Ohio Theatre: 0.1 miles The new location of The Spaghetti Warehouse on S. High Street is just a 3-minute walk to the Ohio Theatre! It’s a great location for families or large groups to have a meal before a show. The restaurant is super family-friendly, and the menu is filled with comfort food (15-layer lasagna, anyone?!) If the weather is nice, they have a large windows that open out onto Columbus Commons (which also makes this a really fun place to take in a concert during the summer). Many people are nostalgic for the previous location of The Spaghetti Warehouse, and we all miss eating in the train car, but the atmosphere of the new location is elevated and feels special in its own new way. Plus, it’s a great destination for a group if you have kids or picky eaters! Where do you like to eat before a show in Downtown Columbus? Leave a suggestion in the comments! 7 Amazing Coffee Shops in Downtown Columbus (2026) _There are so many amazing coffee shops in downtown Columbus! Try one of these Columbus coffee shops the next time you need your caffeine fix!_ I’m always on the search for the nearest coffee shop! If I’m going on an outing with my kids or squeezing in a day date with my husband, there’s usually going to be a stop for coffee involved! Since moving to Columbus, Ohio in 2008, I’ve tried more than my fair share of coffee shops! In this blog post, I’m specifically featuring coffee shops in **downtown Columbus**! Some of the best coffee shops in Columbus can be found downtown and I have personally visited each of the coffee shops on this list! This list will give you good ideas for a coffee shop for a work meeting, stopping in before taking the kids to Columbus Commons or if you need a place to plunk down your laptop and work for a while! Give one of these 7 downtown Columbus coffee shops a try! ## 1. Cafe de Nook * Address: 175 S 3rd St, Columbus, OH 43215 This coffee shop near Columbus Commons is one of the most unique coffee shops in Columbus! The inside is decorated with pictures and decor featuring Paris! You feel that you’re transported to a cafe in Europe! This is a small shop but it does offer outdoor seating when the weather is nice! It’s a great place to pick up an iced coffee before taking your kids to Commons for Kids at Columbus Commons during the summer! There is no parking lot here, but I would recommend parking in the Columbus Commons Parking Garage. Parking on the street can be difficult to find close to the coffee shop, but I have found it on S. Third Street. ## 2. The Roosevelt Coffeehouse * Address: 300 E Long St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website The Roosevelt Coffeehouse is not just a spot for great coffee, it’s also part of a larger mission to support social justice causes including clean water, hunger and sex trafficking. I love the big windows at this location that let the sun in! This coffee shop does have a small parking lot on the side of the building, which is handy! If there’s not a spot available, on street parking is usually pretty easy to find. ## 3. Brioso Coffee * Address: 329 E Long St, Columbus, OH 43215 (Roastery is at this location) * Address: 53 N High St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website Brioso actually has two downtown locations, so chances are there’s a coffee shop near you when you need a caffeine fix in downtown Columbus! You can enjoy a full service coffee bar and fresh beans! It can be trickier to find parking for the N. High location, so if that’s a concern for you, check out the E. Long St. location where there is usually on street parking readily available! ## 4. Freedom a la Cart Café + Bakery * Address: 123 E Spring St, Columbus * Website Freedom a la Cart is a Columbus bakery and coffee shop with a purpose. This downtown Columbus restaurant is part of a larger organization the employs and supports local survivors of sex trafficking, so this is another great coffee shop with a mission that is worthy of our support! Look for coffee, pastries, and made from scratch meals. When I visited recently I really enjoyed the banana bread with my coffee! There is a parking lot here on the side of the coffee shop (along with a great mural for pictures)! ## 5. Bottoms Up Coffee * Address: 350 Mt Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website Bottoms Up Coffee moved from Franklinton to downtown Columbus, into a gorgeous space at The View on Grant. The coffee shop is bright and inviting thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. There are two levels with plenty of seating. There are several specialty drinks to choose from, including matcha and hot chocolate for the non-coffee drinkers. They also have seasonal options available. Bottoms Up is well known for their Rainy Day coffee. A cloud of cotton candy drips into a hot cup of coffee (or tea). The drink needs to be pure (no milk added) so that it’s hot enough to melt the cotton candy, but you can add flavored syrup if you’d like. I opted for cream on the side. Bottoms Up was founded to help reduce infant mortality in the Franklinton and the Hilltop and the coffee shop uses a portion of each purchase to help provide diapers for families in need. ## 6. Qahwah House * Address: 189 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website This Yemeni coffee shop downtown is huge. It also has an amazing rooftop patio. It’s such a great space in downtown Columbus to enjoy a cup of coffee! Try their pistachio latte or Yemeni-style coffee or tea. Many traditional drinks are flavored with cardamom and cinnamon. They also sell refreshers, matcha, and cold brew. Check the pastry case for delicious Yemeni pastries! ## 7. Carnegie’s Cafe at Columbus Metropolitan Library * Address: 96 S Grant Ave, Columbus, OH 43215 * Website Carnegie’s Cafe is inside the Columbus Metropolitan Library – Main Library in downtown Columbus. Not only do they have great coffee, but there is also a wide selection of treats, lunch items and other drinks. This blog post isn’t about libraries, but I’ll just put a little plug in for our Main Library . . . if you haven’t been, this is a must visit destination! This library is amazing! AND if you’re stopping by to check out a book, you might as well pick up a coffee! Carnegie’s Cafe is also a very convenient stop for your caffeine fix when visiting Topiary Park which is just outside the doors of Main Library! * * * I hope you enjoy exploring all of the great coffee in Columbus! If you’re serious about exploring as many Columbus coffee shops as you can, make sure to check out the Columbus Coffee Trail! After visiting 4 coffee shops around Columbus, you can earn a free t-shirt! And if you make it to all of the coffee shops on the trail, you earn a Columbus Coffee Trail mug! You can find Columbus Coffee Trail online from Experience Columbus! They have a convenient way of keeping track of all of the coffee shops you visit online! Doing the Coffee Trail is a great date idea in Columbus! Plan Your Visit to COSI: America’s #1 Science Museum! COSI (The Center of Science and Industry) in Columbus, Ohio, has been voted America’s #1 Science Museum for 4 years in a row! It’s hands down one of the best places to take your kids in Central Ohio! This post was sponsored by Ohio, The Heart of it All. and COSI. _This post was updated on October 13, 2025._ I grew up about 90 miles from Columbus and my parents brought us to visit COSI at least once a year! It was always an exciting trip! I have good memories of visiting the original location of COSI when it was downtown and having lunch at the original Wendy’s just across the street! Since moving to Columbus, COSI has always been a big part of our lives! My kids just never grow tired of visiting this incredible science museum! This guide to visiting COSI will give you a glimpse of what to expect, how to plan your time and answers to some frequently asked questions! Real embryos in the Life exhibit ## Classic COSI Exhibits COSI is home to more than 10 much loved, classic exhibits that remain on display permanently. When we moved to Columbus over 10 years ago, I looked forward to bringing my own kids to COSI just like my parents did! When my oldest was one, we got our first COSI membership! **little kidspace** was a life saver for me as a parent! Gadgets Exhibit at COSI As my toddlers turned into preschoolers, they gravitated to the exhibits **Ocean** and **Progress**. And now as elementary aged kids, they’ve discovered **Gadgets** and the driving simulator in **Energy Explorers**! Even my husband pointed out on our most recent trip to COSI that our boys have found new things to enjoy at all of their ages and stages! Ocean Exhibit at COSI If you grew up going to COSI like I did, make sure to take a peek into the **History of COSI** exhibit and take a ride in the mine shaft that was relocated from the old COSI! Kids who are interested in cars and driving will be intrigued by the **Meet the Innovators** exhibit on the first floor! My kids always love driving the four wheeler simulator! 4-wheeler simulator in the Meet the Innovators Exhibit **Energy Explorers** helps kids understand the impact of their choices in regards to energy sources, disposable products and transportation options. My kids also enjoy the driving simulator here! (Are you sensing a theme? LOL) Don’t miss the **Space** Exhibit on the Mezzanine Level! The Mezzanine is also home to the **Planetarium** and it’s where you can ride the **High Wire Unicycle**! Space exhibit at COSI Younger kids will love seeing their favorite PBS characters and creating their own TV show in the **WOSU** exhibit on the second floor and those fascinated by the human body will find lots to learn in the **Life** exhibit! My kids got a big kick out of the keyboard that plays body noises! Kids love anything that makes fart noises, am I right?! Discover body noises in the Life exhibit at COSI ## My Kids’ Favorite COSI Exhibits I want to highlight a couple of the classic COSI exhibits that our family has loved over the years! ### little kidspace A membership to COSI just to visit little kidspace once a week more than paid for itself when my kids were toddlers! It’s one of the best indoor play areas for young kids in all of Columbus! Throwback to my son enjoying little kidspace in 2018! This area is for kids 1st grade and under only and you need to be checked in and out by an employee, which adds an extra level of safety for young kids. My youngest son is just about to age out of little kidspace and that is bittersweet. BUT the great thing about COSI is that there is something for all ages! (Read my list of children’s museums in Ohio for more hands-on museum ideas!) ### American Museum of Natural History Dinosaur Gallery The Dinosaur Gallery at COSI The Dinosaur Gallery is a permanent exhibit at COSI and it has been such a welcome addition since my youngest son is a huge dinosaur fan! We ALWAYS visit the Dinosaur Gallery to see the dinosaur models, climb in the Oviraptor nest and interact with the hands-on exhibits! The Dinosaur Gallery is included in your admission to COSI! American Museum of Natural History Dinosaur Gallery ### Ocean Ocean exhibit at COSI Ocean has become one of my kids’ favorite exhibits! Caution: kids can get wet! Probably not wet enough to need a full change of clothes, but that probably depends on the kid! This exhibit harnesses the power of water and kids can learn about waves, erosion and laminar flow in lots of hands-on ways! Ocean exhibit at COSI ### Progress Progress has always been a favorite exhibit! The Progress exhibit shows how technology has changed communities over time. My kids particularly love playing in the 50’s diner and using a (gasp!) pay phone! I once joked that I measured my children’s growth by how scared they were of the moving DJ in the Progress exhibit! It took a couple of years for them to be fully convinced that he is not a real man sitting in the DJ booth! ## Outdoor Features at COSI While you could literally spend all day inside COSI, don’t miss what COSI has to offer on the outside as well! ### Big Science Park The Whisper Dishes in the Big Science Park You can enter the Big Science Park by exiting the doors across from Ocean on the first floor. Outside there are hands-on exhibits like the Whisper Dishes and a pulley that allows you to lift a car! What? It’s true! Lifting a car in the Big Science Park ### Dinosaur Sculpture Gallery If you have a dinosaur lover in the family like I do, make sure you check out the Dinosaur Sculpture Garden in front of COSI, to the right of the main entrance. ### Rain Garden To the left of the main entrance you will find a Rain Garden and some picnic tables! There’s a nice space for kids to explore and you could eat a packed lunch or snack! ### Dorrian Green Dorrian Green is a public park outside of COSI managed by Columbus Recreation and Parks. It is a really cool park! There’s a unique playground for kids, fountains to splash in and lots of tables! I also love the large porch swings lining the walkway! Definitely allow some time to play in the park when you visit! ## Limited Engagement Exhibits at COSI in 2025 ### Waves of Wonder Beginning March 12, 2025, Waves of Wonder is a temporary exhibit on the first floor that projects the ocean floor onto the walls. Watch fish swim and explore a shipwreck! No end date has been given for this exhibit but it is included in admission. ### Wild Kratts® Ocean Adventure: The Exhibit and Wild Kratts® Ceature Power: The Exhibit Two exhibits rolled into one, this exhibit features the secret lives of animals around the globe. This interactive exhibit is included in admission through January 4, 2026. ### The Science Behind Pixar This limited-time exhibit explores the science and technology behind Pixar’s animated films and your favorite movie characters. This exhibit is great for older kids and adults – especially those who are interested in movie-making and animation! There is an additional cost of $10/person for members and $15/person for non-members and if you have an Ultimate Membership, 4 tickets to this exhibit are included. It will be on exhibit through September 6, 2026. ## Shows at COSI Beyond the classic and temporary exhibits, visitors can enjoy special shows at the **National Geographic Giant Screen Theater** or the **Planetarium**! Live shows like Rat Basketball take place in the Atrium and there are always employees in the hallways with science experiments and other hands-on activities! Science experiments in the hallway at COSI ## Food and Drink at COSI You don’t even have to worry about leaving COSI to get a decent lunch! COSI offers two options for meals, snacks and drinks! ### Atomic Cafe The Atomic Cafe on the first floor offers a pretty wide range of menu options for kids and adults! The food is really good! There is a large seating area including outdoor options. If you’re planning to spend an entire day at COSI, I think you’ll be happy with the options for meals at the Atomic Cafe! ### Molecules If what you need is a snack or a caffeine pick-me-up, stop in to Molecules, the cafe also located on the first floor. They serve gourmet coffee drinks, baked goods, popcorn and even craft brews! ## What You Need to Know about Visiting COSI in Columbus, Ohio: ### How much are tickets to COSI? General online admission tickets are $30 for ages 13 and up. Kids ages 2-12 are $25. Kids under age 2 are free! Advance tickets are required for entry. Make sure to get your ticket online before visiting! ### Does COSI offer any discounted tickets? (applies to the individual certified teacher with ID) * Participating members of the ACM (Association of Children’s Museums) Reciprocal Network receive 50% off general admission for up to six people. * As a member of Museums for All Columbus, COSI will offer $3 per tickets for up to eight visitors for those who have proof of participation in WIC, Ohio Directions or Ohio Medicaid. * Columbus Member Advantage entitles members of participating institutions discounted general admission ($3 off) to COSI for up to four people. Larger than life skeleton floating from the ceiling at COSI ### How much is a membership to COSI? I am a huge believer in the value of a membership to COSI, especially if you live within an hour of the museum! Check this link for the most up to date membership pricing. In addition to admission, membership also includes special member only previews of new exhibits plus a 10% discount in the gift shop and cafés. ### How long should I plan to spend at COSI? If you are hoping to see all of the exhibits at COSI, I would plan to spend at least 4 hours at COSI! If you want to see a movie or a show at the Planetarium, I would include additional time for that, plus time for a meal in the Atomic Cafe! If you’re local, one of the great things about having a membership to COSI is that you can visit as often as you like without the pressure of having to see all of the exhibits in one visit! ### Where can you park at COSI? Discounted parking for both the garage under Dorrian Green park and the garage on Starling Street is $10 per car if you bring your ticket into COSI for a discounted validation stamp, excluding special events including COSI After Dark. There are several other parking garages within walking distance of COSI. ### When is the best time to visit COSI? From personal experience I can tell you that the best time to visit COSI is on a weekday. I know that’s not always possible for families but a weekday offers smaller crowds, therefore more opportunities to be able to interact with popular exhibits! On the weekends, Sundays will be slightly less busy than Saturdays. COSI also offers COSI After Dark, a 21+ event for adults that allows you to explore COSI kid-free after hours! This would be a great date idea in Columbus that would allow you to take advantage of a smaller crowd! Ocean exhibit at COSI ## More Tips for Visiting COSI: Here are a few tips that might make your visit to COSI a little smoother! ### Sensory Bags If you have kids who might need a little extra support, check out a Sensory Bag at the Guest Services Desk. For no extra cost, these bags include noise cancelling headphones, visual schedules, bubbles and fidget toys. ### Calm Room Family members who need to take a break in a quiet space can access the Calm Room located behind the Guest Services desk. ### Lockers Lockers are available for public use for $1. This is super handy if you don’t want to carry around a bag or a winter coat! We’ve taken advantage of this option quite often! The lockers only take quarters and change is available at the Guest Services Desk. ### Nursing Room Another service I’ve taken advantage of many times is the Nursing Room which is located on Level 2 in little kidspace! ### Strollers Yes, you can take strollers into COSI. COSI is very stroller (and wheelchair) friendly. Every level is accessible by elevator. Strollers, wheelchairs and electric scooters are available for rental at the Guest Services Desk. ### Shopping If you’ve got a budding scientist in the family, the perfect gift can be found at **Science 2 Go** , COSI’s super cool gift shop! Many unique gifts and souvenirs can be found here! Shopping at the Science 2 Go gift shop at COSI * * * I hope this guide helps you make the most of your visit to COSI! Chances are your kids will be like my youngest son who even after spending 4+ hours at COSI said “I don’t wanna leave!” as I tried to coax him out the door! Don’t forget to get that membership so you can promise a return trip very soon! 😉 _**Share this post with your friends!**_ Follow me on Facebook and Instagram for more fun things to do in Columbus, Ohio! **_Save this post on Pinterest!_**
