In middle school, Mr. Charles Wilson, the advisor of her school's science club and her science teacher, motivated her budding interest in mathematics. Mr. Wilson held a Master's Degree from Columbia University, was also a chemist, and Dr. Hunt was especially inspired by being mentored by a Black teacher fluent in science and mathematics. Hunt earned her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College and later completed a PhD at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, where her curiosity for complex systems fully developed. Over her career, she has made influential contributions to nonlinear dynamics, fractals, and stochastic processes, often focusing on real world problems such as materials science, internet traffic, and data analysis.
