Report from the nursery... Spokes granted Dunbar Nursery £2000 in 2025 towards the cost of an Urban Arrow (Family Next version) from Laidback Bikes in Edinburgh. This is their report on use of the cargobike for its first few months. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 2025 We opened our Outdoor Nursery in May 2025. We’ve been using a cargo bike as a key part of our outdoor activities. Thanks to the support from the Spokes grant, we were able to purchase our own cargo bike, which has completely transformed the way we travel with the children and how we use the outdoor spaces in our community. The bike has made it so much easier for us to take the children on regular outings—to the beach, local parks, woodlands, and other nearby nature spots. The large, secure seating area means we can transport the children comfortably and safely, and they absolutely love the experience of travelling by bike. It has opened up so many opportunities for outdoor learning, helping us teach the children about nature, their local environment, and the importance of spending time outdoors. Using the cargo bike has also become a big part of how we introduce the children to sustainable travel. They’re learning from a young age about greener ways of moving around, and it sparks great conversations about looking after the planet. The bike has genuinely widened what we’re able to do as a service—activities that once felt difficult or out of reach are now completely achievable. I’m extremely grateful to Spokes for the grant. We would never have been able to afford a cargo bike on our own, and it has made such a positive difference to our work and to the children’s experiences. Thank you so much for supporting us and helping make these opportunities possible.
