This year's #ENGR1501 Intro to Engineering design challenge was called Ramp-Bin-Up. Teams had to build a device, using only materials from Staples or Dollarama, that could push a bin of earplugs up a ramp at each of four different slopes.

Final exam for #ENGR1501 starts soon. Good luck to everyone writing today.

It is tradition that the top three teams in my engineering design competition receive some of my wife's homemade baking as 𝗣r𝗜z𝗘𝗦. #ENGR1501
As is also tradition, I judge the teams' choices based on my own preferences. This year it was:
🥇cherry
🥈strawberry-rhubarb
🥉Better Than Pumpkin
Our #ENGR1501 Introduction to Engineering students were tasked with designing a device capable of moving 5 ping pong balls as quickly & cheaply as possible. Amongst other constraints, they were limited to materials from Staples or Dollarama.
Here's what they made: youtu.be/cmgmDGyRkzc
Today was Day 1 of the final testing for our “Step-Up 2024” first-year engineering design challenge. Some good solutions thus far. The rest of the groups will run tomorrow afternoon.

Cherry pie, apple pie, and pecan pie.
As per tradition, p(r)izes were handed out today in #ENGR1501 to the top 3 teams in our “Ring-Pong 2023” engineering design challenge!
Always interested to see the order in which the pies get selected. This year it was:
🥇apple
🥈pecan
🥉cherry
Which would you choose first?
We covered an introduction to intellectual property this morning in #ENGR1501, which allowed me to share the greatest patent figure ever created with my students.
U.S. Patent 4,656,917 granted to Edward L. Van Halen.
