RT @DoctorZen: Beautiful #esa11 poster, interview w/designer @marciamaro on conf. poster design: http://bit.ly/pYwjzm New at Better Posters!
I am a week late on my Wed/Thurs #ESA11 updates. I have blogging guilt!
Looking forward to reading the "Ecologist's Guide to Policy Engagement" launched at #esa11 http://bit.ly/plvmV8 Anyone have it already?
RT @cboettig ESA should have science cafes! Jeremy Fox / OikosBlog oikosjournal.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/the-esa-meeti... #esa11
10 min into Austin-LA flight, flock of birds nails nose & left engine; smell of burnt flesh; crippled plane limps back to airport #ESA11
Boo! I was going to buy a book from U Chicago but they've closed their booth two days early. #ESA11
If I were to buy one book on the exhibit hall, what should it be? Would love recs, esp for modeling, R, theory. #ESA11
Pinsky (4): Ignores disconnect between declining & small popn paradigms. Fishery collapse poor proxy #ESA11
"its" @leafwarbler @JacquelynGill: I'm glad #ESA11 is getting press attention
Pinsky (4): Seems to have ignored our work on extctn risk in teleosts & sharks linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S0065288109... #ESA11
Good talk on loss of tropical biodiversity in 4 right now #ESA11
Back from break: Jeff Crawford is speaking on potential Native American land use effects in the Klamath Region (Paleoecology Session) #ESA11
McLauchlan: Mixed landscapes (like tallgrass prairie with trees) are diabolically difficult to get at with pollen data. #ESA11
Ireland: Episodes of peatland establishment at 5k, 3k, 2k, 0.5k, likely linked to hydroclimate, mediated by basin morphology. #ESA11
Ireland: As ice sheets melted, they left behind ice blocks, which formed lakes & peatlands. How do you go from a pond to a peatland? #ESA11
Blois: Are the assumptions we make about models for future biotic change appropriate? These results suggest: no. #ESA11
Blois: Community turnover is highly tied to patterns of environmental change but the relationship is not stable over time. #ESA11
The first talk in the paleo session is by my labmate, @JessicaBlois! #ESA11
I'm live-tweeting the #paleoecology session in Room 18b. A fun array of talks coming up. #ESA11
#ESA11 tweet-up ended up at Stubbs- line at Koriente was out the door (HOT).
This! RT @DoctorZen: .@sandramchung By being seen as "environmentalists," people stop thinking of ecologists as "honest brokers". #esa11
On the #ESA11 message board, a message about shrimp. http://lockerz.com/s/128628531
I'm glad #ESA11 is getting press attention, and global change is important, but ecology is cool for it's own sake.
KUT report on #ESA11 conflates ecology and environmentalism. Majority of talks aren't on meeting's theme. Are there even talks on overpop?
This is a pretty skewed report MT @climategeek: Ecologists Discuss World’s Problems in Austin - #ESA11 report on KUT: http://bit.ly/pIAwHB
We did at the Ecol Soc Aus last year - several of them. Went really well @leafwarbler @DoctorZen @jaimedash Free public talks #esa11
#ESA11 presiders should have a mandatory training session. I haven't seen anyone get it all right- mic use, keeping on time, no photos...
MT @jessicablois: My #ESA11 talk: How well do models built across space hold up if you look at other times? 1:30 in the paleo session!
Hilarious! RT @carlystrasser: #ESA11: Different levels of scientists as seen by other scientists: http://ow.ly/600jV
