Getting ready for #SICB2026 where I've been invited to run a workshop + participate in several panels, all addressing how we as scientists confront the present moment in history. Excited but also nervous about getting on a plane to Portland as my last trip there for #ESA2023 was overtaken by covid!
Bummed to have missed #ESA2023 when it was so close to home this year, but grateful to have been able to find time during a busy summer to visit my family in PA.
Last morning at #ESA2023 - thinking about trait-based approaches to restoration ecology!
#ESA2023 Interested in myco fungi, forests and nutrient cycling? Ever wonder if variation in small understory trees matters for BGC? Does it make sense to count all stems down to 1cm? Come check out this poster by talented (former undergrad) Adam Weiler.
#ESA2023 Two exciting talks this afternoon about root exudation - back to back but in adjacent rooms.
Our @NSF SOAR grant is at #ESA2023! Students Grace, Makana and Alden, and faculty Michelle Geary from @WestValleyCC presented their citizen science / bird banding with @SFBBO! Grace Smith also received an @ESA_SEEDS student scholarship this year! Say hi if you see them around!
This is the first ESA I’ve missed since 2006, and I’m having serious FOMO! I miss you all! Enjoy #ESA2023!
People arriving at PDX-the light rail that normally takes you to Gateway is down. There’s a bus that can take you there, but it’s not a short ride from the airport. And then you still need the train. Ride share - esp if you have > 1 in your party - might be the way to go

#ESA2023 - it's on! Can't wait to see everyone in Portland
