A few more details about this irregular, retrograde moon of Jupiter, including a Hubble image from November 2025. The moon's name comes from Callichore, one of the Muses and one of Zeus's daughters in Greek mythology. Maybe #ESAJuice can take a look in 2031? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kallich...
Before a flyby can be properly considered, the #ESAJuice team need to improve knowledge of the moon's position. Stellar occultations are a great way to do that. The current occultation prediction is here:

Any Sydney-based astronomers here? A team at Andalucia is coordinating an occultation campaign for one of Jupiter's small (2-5km) irregular moons, #Kallichore (a candidate for an #ESAJuice flyby) that'll be passing in front of a star at ~12:20UT on March 18th.

Heading home after a superb week at the Les Houches Winter School for #ESAJuice. I gave lectures about Jupiter and JWST, but I learned so much from all the other lecturers, from magnetospheres, to satellites, and exoplanet connections. What a stunningly beautiful place to wake up to each morning.
When you look at that bright point of light this evening, think of the Jovian fleet. #Juno (2016) is there right now, peering beneath the cloudy veil. #EuropaClipper (2030) and #ESAJuice (2031) are sailing through interplanetary space with a mission to explore Jupiter's ocean moons. (Credit: ESA)
Poster for the Juice mission. We see the spacecraft and planet Jupiter and its moons. The poster reads: Juice. Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer. Exploring the emergence of habitable worlds around gas giants.
#ESAJuice is en route to Jupiter to investigate how life-friendly worlds form around gas giants.
Part of this study implies better understanding Jupiter itself by looking into:
☁️ Jupiter's atmosphere
🧲 Its magnetic environment
💍 Its invisible rings

Key elements of the image are labelled: coma, plasma tail, potential dust tail. An inset shows the location of the Sun, Juice and comet 3I/ATLAS during the observation.
☄️ Our #ESAJuice team couldn't wait until February, when they will receive data on #3IATLAS from the mission's science instruments.
So they downloaded just a quarter of an image from its navigation camera to get a surprise sneak preview.

Our #ESAJuice meeting is over, so a quick moment for some sightseeing. This is the Gänseliesel "goose girl" statue in Göttingen... apparently it's tradition for newly minted PhDs to climb the fountain, kiss the statue, and present a bunch of flowers...
Although it's not an easy journey (involving planes, trains, & automobiles), I finally made it to @mpsgoettingen.bsky.social for the #ESAJuice Science Team Meeting (our 26th!). Personal first for me: I've never been to Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research and this bit of Germany before.
Then our #ESAJuice mission — on its way to Jupiter to study its icy moons — and our future mission dedicated to Enceladus, currently under study, might be of interest to you!
#CM25

Illustration showing Juice at Ganymede, with Jupiter visible in the background.
#ESAJuice is a unique & bold mission.
It will be the first spacecraft to orbit a moon other than our own, and the first to change orbit from another planet to one of its moons.
Its observations are bound to enable breakthrough scientific results from European scientists and beyond.

A key focus of #ESAJuice will be Ganymede: Jupiter’s largest moon, thought to have a salty ocean beneath its icy shell.
Juice will study:
☁️ Ganymede's atmosphere and ionosphere
🧀 Its surface
🌊 The subsurface ocean

Once at Jupiter, #ESAJuice will explore Jupiter’s moons and Jupiter as a planetary system, giving us insights into the emergence of habitable worlds around gas giants.
Juice will explore:
☁️ Jupiter’s atmosphere
🧲 Its magnetic environment
🌋 Volcanic Io and Jupiter’s invisible rings
