when people take care;
gold’s only glitter
without common air.

that a good House brings—
light over flash, work over show.

to fit in a room—
trades care for a catwalk,
shade for a stage,
stamps IMPROVED in gold ink
on a shrink-wrapped page.

But neighbors return
with a hose and a will.
