Small cream coloured stoneware jug depicting Boudoir ca and Britons.
Lucky little find at an antiques fair: 1/2 size version of a Staffs stoneware jug 1839 by Charles Meigh depicting Boadicea rousing the Britons, and Caesar’s landings over a century before on the other side. I’ve had the big one for years, didn’t know the little one existed.

The original, previously on display in the Museum of London, is just 10cm long. Oil was poured into the ankle, & the wick lit at the big toe. Overfilling causes an oil gush from the toe!

Well, she was slightly out of my way, but I can never pass up a chance to glimpse her. A statue so lovely only an Ordnance Survey bench mark on the base could enhance it. Or a severed head dangling from the harness.

Finished #BetweenTwoRivers by @moudhy.bsky.social & I loved it. It makes me want to dive into my sister's cuneiform course (she studied Assyriology, while I did a stint in Archaeology). Just to learn more. I highly recommend the book. It's amazing.
