The very first #AfricanAmerican elected to the US Senate won his seat on #ThisDayInHistory in 1966. #EdwardBrooke (R, MA) served just two terms, but this was the longest tenure of any black senator until 2025. He was the first black man in the Senate since #Reconstruction.
