I haven't been posting there very much as of late, but I put up a post on the Bunnyblog saying goodbye to Chuck and giving the full story of his health and mobility issues since his hospitalization this summer.

The thing about Chuck I keep coming back to is that... this is a neurological condition causing his problems, and... it's not going to get better. At best, we could've maybe slowed or paused the progression for a while. But sooner or later (and it seems like it's "sooner") he would continue to […]
We've said that Chuck has just 3 wants in life: treats, kisses from Matilda, and spending the day under the bed.
Matilda has basically been ignoring him (she doesn't understand what's going on at all), and while he gets all the treats he wants, he can't really go under the bed - we have to keep […]
It kills me because sometimes Chuck seems just fine - quite content - and then other times he just seems so tired, like he doesn't understand why his legs don't work anymore or why we have to keep picking him up and giving him medicine.

Morning Chuck update: unfortunately he did not urinate at all last night, and despite my best efforts I was not able to express his bladder.
He also did not eat a ton, though he did eat some - and he seemed quite relaxed and comfortable throughout the night.
That said though, not being able to […]
Chuck the bunny seen from the front, resting in a pet beds that is just two long cushions that run down his sides. The cushions are connected underneath him with fabric. A pile of greens is in front of him.
Chuck the bunny seen from the front and slightly above on his new per bed - 2 gray cushions that support his sides. A pile of greens is in front of him.
Our bunnies have never shown any interest in pet beds before, but with Chuck’s mobility issues we thought this kind might help him - and he does seem to enjoy it. It helps him sit upright so he can eat and groom his face, and at night he can stretch his […]

Chuck's condition just really is not improving... he was eating really well at first, but he's less and less interested in food as each day goes by, and he just seems so tired all the time - and yeah, some of that's the medicine, but I can't help thinking that he's just exhausted in general.
I […]
Back home from the vet - who was able to express Chuck's bladder (it was very full). Not sure why he wasn't able to go on his own this time... but with luck it was just a fluke.
Nevertheless, we'll be monitoring his bladder closely over the next 24 hours.

Chuck the bunny lying in his carrier, with his ears folded back, looking grumpy
Back at the vet because Chuck hasn’t urinated in just over 24 hours… though he seems ok otherwise, we can’t risk bladder problems getting out of hand, so… #BunnyHealth #ElderBun #HouseRabbit #Bunny #BunniesOfMastodon
Overhead view of Chuck the bunny lying in his litter box. Around his head are a bunch of greens. His (immobile) legs are tucked up behind him, sticking slightly out to the side.
All snuggled into his litter box for the night - lots of fluffy soft paper bedding, fresh hay, a pad underneath for traction (in case he tries to move a bit), and a nice pile of greens for dinner. (We offer him water and pellets during the day.)
Since […]

Chuck the bunny sitting in his litter box, with his head turned to the side and partially obscured by a pile of lettuce, his one visible eye partially closed, as if to say “no photos!”
Chuck is doing better tonight - able to sit upright again - but he says “NO PHOTOS!” ;-)

Chuck the bunny lying on a black and blue mat, lying mostly upright (slightly tilted to his right), leaning against a large rolled up towel. His back legs are covered by a faded green blanket. His eyes are mostly closed. Some uneaten treats are scattered nearby.
Poor Chuck is having a rough day - he’s struggling to even lay upright, so we’ve had to prop him against a rolled up towel so he’s not always lying on his side (and so he can eat and drink).

8am and I've been peed on 3 times already by Chuck while moving him & giving him his medicine.

Chuck’s white blood cell count is down, so we’re stopping the Panacur he was on to treat the e. cuniculi - that’s one of it’s unfortunate side effects, and we kinda doubt this is a flare up anyway… still on a bunch of pain and inflammation meds, though. #BunnyHealth #ElderBun #HouseRabbit […]
Down at the big vet hospital this morning for Chuck’s physical therapy appointment… poor boy was so sleepy this morning. #BunnyHealth #HouseRabbit #ElderBun #BunniesOfMastodon
Chuck is getting *all* the therapies... stretches, massage, pulsed electromagnetic field treatment, acupuncture, laser therapy... the works. Anything and everything we can do to try and help him.
At this point we doubt we'll ever get his legs working again, but we're just hoping to get them […]
Chuck the bunny seen from above - his front is facing forward and sitting upright while his hind quarters are turned on the side (lying on his left side)
From above you can see how he lies on his side somewhat - with how one of his legs is weaker than the other, he ends up flopping on this same side all the time.

Chuck the bunny seen from the front lying on a thick pad (a “PEMF” pad - pulsed electromagnetic field) as a treatment for his mobility issues in his hind legs
Chuck getting one of his therapy treatments this morning… poor boy is very tired, but still eating (and fighting us when we give him his meds). #BunnyHealth #bunny #HouseRabbit #ElderBun #BunniesOfMastodon
So, again, thank you everyone for keeping Chuck in your thoughts... we almost lost him earlier this summer and he surprised us by pulling through, and every day since then has been a blessing, but I don't know if that will happen again.

Poor boy could not move at all last night, and with bunnies that means he was... a bit of a mess this morning. (Also means he's missing out on some important, uh, "nutritional supplements" that rabbits have.)
We're considering a wheelchair, but at his age I'm not sure how well he'd be able to […]
Chuck is at the big vet hospital (Red Bank in Tinton Falls, NJ) today getting some therapy - physical therapy, acupuncture, and laser therapy - to try and help his legs and back half mobility issues. The doctor is also going to take a look at him in case she has any other ideas for treatment […]
Fellow bunny people... Please keep Chuck in your thoughts tonight and tomorrow... his condition has continued to degrade; he is basically immobile and cannot sit upright or move very much at all... and although he is going into the big vet hospital tomorrow for some therapy we really don't know […]
It breaks my heart to watch Chuck struggle to move - his back legs just don't quite work right, and you can tell he's struggling, trying to get them to move the way he wants.
In particular watching his back half tip over and then he can't get his feet back under him... I can only imagine how […]
So the vet thinks Chuck's problems are more likely neurological than physical - no signs of spinal injury or broken bones or anything like that. (This is not a surprise.)
For now we will continue Panacur treatment in case this is a flare up of his E.cuniculi, along with monitoring his blood […]
Got an appointment at our local vet; thankfully they were able to squeeze us in. Here’s hoping there’s something they can do to help Chuck and his legs…

Ugh… unfortunately Chuck’s condition has gone downhill rapidly since yesterday; he really struggles to control his back legs now.
Now we play the game of “what vet can we get him in to see in a hurry on a Saturday,” which is not a fun game at all.
#Bunny #ElderBun #BunnyHealth #HouseRabbit […]
Chuck is doing reasonably well today - bunny cam shows he was fine overnight (used his litter box, ate all his dinner, ate a bunch of hay, was moving around periodically).
This morning his behavior is normal, aside from his back legs clearly just not being as strong as they used to be.
Chuck […]
Chuck had some poo-bum, so he got a little butt-bath tonight (just the tiniest bit of water in the sink and some very, very diluted and gentle soap) and I swear he seems to be doing a bit better just from that - sitting up while eating his dinner (and really eating, mind you - nothing wrong with […]
The bunnies Matilda and Chuck in the round yellow rug in my office. Matilda is facing forward, eating a treat, while Chuck is lying on the ground, but also eating a treat
Despite his leg weakness, he still has the energy to follow Matilda and hop down the hallway to my office to demand (and receive) afternoon treats. ❤️

After this, I took his litter box and cut the side down for him until the new litter box with the lower sides arrives tomorrow. Hopefully that helps him. It was good to see him eating so well, though.
