cyclinginstitute 2 d 📢 Calling all young #architects, #artists, and #placemakers! 📢 The @Association EBN invites #applications for The Emma Burke Newman Architecture and Arts Grant, 2026. They are looking for young adults (17-35) residing in the #EEA, #UK, or #US to bring community-shaping projects to life. There is a special interest in projects that explore architecture, placemaking, and cycling/road safety, honouring the memory of #Emma, who was tragically killed by a truck driver while cycling to university in Glasgow in 2023 But all artistic and cross-cultural proposals are welcome. This #grant is about continuing Emma's legacy of compassion, creativity, and intercultural exchange. It offers young people the chance to pursue life-changing artistic, educational, and cross-cultural experiences. Please #apply and #share this far and wide! In 13 weeks Glasgow will have a safer junction where cyclist #EmmaBurkeNewman died 27 Jan 2023. The relative speed of this work is due to persistent engagement from Emma's loved ones and a receptive @glasgowcitycouncil.bsky.social and highlights the burden put on grieving people to push for change.

Cyclist told parents about Glasgow junction where HGV took her life Emma Burke Newman, 22, died after she was dragged under an HGV on Glasgow's Broomielaw in January 2023.

This dangerous junction had previously been flagged to GCC officials by @gobikeglasgow.bsky.social. It is gratifying to see recent consultation on thoughtful designs for making this a safer and more appealing place to move around, regardless of the way you travel.
