The caterpillar of a silver-spotted skipper butterfly. It is at the far end of a pointed leaf which covers much of the photo diagonally from the bottom left. The caterpillar is balanced on the edge of the leaf. Its body is divided into many sections that alternate between a light yellow and a light green, with a large red bulbous head.

A silver-spotted skipper atop some pine needles. Its wings are closed and appear triangular in shape. The butterfly is a small butterfly with a dark brown body and wings. It has a white streak down the middle of the hindwing. It is a thin line near the top, gets a little bit thicker just above the center, and thicker on the bottom half. Behind that are the forewings, but only a small section of the top of them can be seen. There is a gold streak that can be seen that lines up with the white streak on the hindwing. There are a couple more tan spots further back on the wings. It has a big round black eye and fairly long antennae. It is resting on top of some green pine needles. The background of the photo is a blurred light green.
