That sounds like a good thread! Amazing to think of Twitter saving a PhD. But I learnt so much from #EpiTwitter that I can believe it.

This takes me back to #EpiTwitter and the debates on the use of latent growth curve models for causal questions. That thread SAVED MY PHD.

"What exactly is being compared?", among other questions and issues made me stopped using these models further in my PhD.

The early days of #EpiTwitter did a much better job of promoting the work of early career academics (ECA) than bsky. My speculation is that the novelty of the medium meant ECAs could establish themselves relatively easily. Bsky seems to be more dependent on people's pre-existing social capital.

In fairness, I get very nostalgia thinking about the old #EpiTwitter days. Which was only a few years ago.

#EpiTwitter took off when a handful of people started having interesting conversations. I don't think it requires many people, just a committed group. Julia is absolutely leading the charge!
