This close-up image of the black bridge on Cassie's violet Jackson guitar shows all six strings have rusted. The fourth string has broken at the bridge's saddle, after corrosion ate away at the string's core. The strings themselves are Ernie Ball Cobalt Mammoth Slinky and their gauge is 12-62 with the four thicker strings being wire-wound. These strings were on Cassie's guitar for about two months prior to showing signs of rust, and unbeknownst to her at the time, the simple act of playing her guitar is how the fourth string broke. Note: She is not forceful on her strings when playing, and she uses a flexible rubber-nylon hybrid pick made by DAVA.
In contrast to the previous image, all dust and corrosion has been cleaned off the bridge, pickups, and surrounding areas — making the guitar look-and-feel like-new again. New strings on the guitar as well. This time, it's nickel wound strings instead of cobalt steel ones.
This screenshot of Ardour shows Cassie's full recording session of her cover of 3 Doors Down's "Kryptonite" — paying homage to the late Brad Arnold who passed away on 2026-02-07. The first three tracks are her guitar tracks. One is colour-coded pastel blue, which is the main guitar track for the song's melody. The two tracks below it ― colour-coded pastel pink — are the rhythm guitar tracks and they are panned left-and-right to create a wide psycho-acoustic phenomenon known as The Haas Effect. The track below the rhythm guitar tracks is the bass guitar track, which Cassie wrote out in Guitar Pro and imported it into Ardour as a wave file, and she has processed the audio as she would any other audio track. The remaining three tracks, all colour-coded red, are MIDI tracks — one of which is the drums track, which is controlled by a plug-in called DrumGizmo, which provides Cassie with the Muldjord Kit drum samples where she can process the audio from that in the same way she would if she recorded an acoustic drum-kit. The two tracks below the drums are her two synthesizer tracks. These two synths don't feature prominently in the mix, as their primary role is to help create atmosphere when needed, and to fill the mix out a bit more during the choruses and outro. The only track not present is a vocal track, which is yet to come; Cassie needs to get a microphone that is capable of handling her wide and dynamic vocal range.
This is another screenshot of Ardour, this time it's Cassie's mixing console; and on it is the finalising buses of lead guitar, rhythm guitar tracks, and some key elements of the drums — most notably the two snare (top-and-bottom) mics, overhead mics, and ambience/room mics. On the Main Audio Bus (which is what carries the final mix of the song) is a clipper to help with keeping the overall audio from peaking into the red. This results in an average "loudness" of about 3.4 dB — her target is between 3 and 4 dB. On the Drums Mixers, she is using a gate, EQ, and compressor on the Snare; EQ on the overheads; and EQ and compressor on the Ambience. Across all tracks in her Guitar Mixers, she is using EQ as her "2030 cabinet" to emulate a speaker cabinet with two 30 cm diameter speakers. On her Lead Guitar Mixer, she has disabled her "Bright Mic" EQ and "Dark Mic" EQ on account of her deciding those two EQs are not necessary in this mix for the time being — at least while she is still finalising the mix and testing it on various sound systems other than her Sony WH1000-XM5 headset.

This macro-shot image shows the broken fourth string and how the (still intact) winding has unravelled from the string's core. This string broke as a direct result of corrosion. Cobalt steel, when paired with dissimilar metals (such as what the bridge on Cassie's guitar is made of, and the nickel fret wires up on her guitar's neck), is prone to rusting, regardless of the environment it is in.

This is a completely non-destructive workflow that allows granular control over the sound, regardless of the state of the overall project. The project itself here is Cassie Robinson's cover of 3 Doors Down's song "Kryptonite".

Also present on the mixer is her two synthesizers, bass track, and drums. This and the previous screenshot is the last known state her session with her "Kryptonite" cover was in before the fourth string on her guitar broke. She was about to record the main guitar track when it happened.
PSA: If you live in a humid environment, NEVER buy cobalt steel strings — they WILL rust and break.
Luckily I was only doing a pre-run before recording the main guitar part (after recording the rhythm guitar tracks) of my cover of Kryptonite.
