Every story matters.
But without person-centered systems, too many stories never reach care.
This World Cancer Day, United by Unique reminds us that equity is built through implementation. Read more about what that looks like in practice. buff.ly/FDAuGxZ

As the year ends, we're reflecting on the connections built through stories. Thanks to our veterans for sharing their experiences and to all supporters who believe their voices matter.

Today, we’re thinking of those who are far from home — serving, remembering, or living through conflict.
May moments of peace, kindness, and connection find you wherever you are.

In 1916, Canadian soldiers crafted makeshift “trees” from scraps—a symbol of hope in dark times. Today, these gestures remind us that light can thrive even in hardship. Let’s cherish shared memories and continue to create spaces for hope.

Many people faced severe financial hardship, struggling to afford essentials and relying on food banks, charities or borrowing from family and friends. Groups like single parents, disabled people and people with pre-existing health conditions were hit especially hard.
“When I lost my source of income, I was unable to cover just my rent with Universal Credit alone ... So we had to rely on food banks to survive, and I built up rent arrears which has never happened before in the 12 years I'd been privately renting.’’
“We were living on next to nothing financially. We were living on very basic food because we could not afford to go and buy anything other than very basic food”
“My wife had left a zero-hours contract with her work and so was not entitled to maternity pay. This situation was very, very stressful and I am still recovering from the financial strain. We still had all the rent and bills to pay, nappies and baby formula, food ... we just survived!’’

Quote from a parent of an 8-year-old child in Northern Ireland: "It was just, 'Do the work, do the work, do the work,' but it wasn't marked, it wasn't assessed, so you didn't know if you were teaching things right and you didn't know if what your child was doing was the correct work... there was no interaction. You would hear of other schools that had Zoom calls and they had the whole class in."
